Default exhaust for turbod cars

do i need to upgrade my exhaust
right now i have 2 1/4 tanabe racing medallion w/ 2 1/2 dp
my turbo doesn't even spool till right before vtec
i'm running a t3/t04e 60 trim .63ar exhaust w/ a stage 5 wheel
i'm figuring on 3in.
where can i find a 3in. dp and 3in. muffler for a decent price?
i know a guy that can weld 3in. exhaust for cheap but i need the muffler and dp

3" is fine but from what I hear and have seen from dyno's(I wish I had the charts saved) it doesnt really help much unless you have about 350+whp. Go with 2.5" from the turbo back and keep some of that low-end.

well from what I have felt under my own butt it will help spool time a good bit. I say go with the biggest thing you can get.

Yea I was going to say less back pressure spools the turbo faster creating more low end.

My car felt like crap open downpipe. If it added horsepower it wasn't enough to make up for the noise.

Turbine housing will play a big part in back pressure and how ur car feels out of boost too.

3" is the way to go. Arturbo gained 13whp @ 7psi by going from an Apex N1 to a thermal 3". People run 3" up to 500whp, even some supra guys run 3". I wonder when 3.5" would become beneficial on our cars, supra guys go 4" above 600whp.

yep, smaller DP more torque, but this cannot be felt when youre talking 300tq to 280, no way, nobodies *** is that accurate!!! LOL

3" gets my vote, tahts what i run and ai feel i bit more up top, this is coming form a VW which has more torque than hondas usually do, coming from 2.5DP and test pipe to 2.25 catback, i cant feel any torque diff, but top end yep, feels better, smoother

The greddy T88 supra kits come w/ 3" downpipe. Guys have claimed to make 75rwhp by switching from 3"-4" @ high boost. like 600+whp levels. I would like to see a comparison between 3" exhaust and 3.5" on a 25psi GSR.

How about wheel trim?
I remember someone posting something like this a few months ago but nobody answered.

Would it be correct that a larger wheel with less blades would increase turbo lag, but allow enough exhaust gases pass it to keep some of the lowend? (no motor lag, but turbo lag)
I wonder because of the feedback we get from T3 stage3 vs T3 stage5 in the same a/r housing.
Stage5 wheel is large and has 10 blades.
Stage3 wheel is smaller but has 11 blades.

What size exhaust?
We went from a 2.5 open dp to a 3 inch open dp and the car definately had more power. When a 3inch thermal was added it felt the same if not loosing a little up top. This is a crx b16 @9 psi with a revhard t3/t4. I guess every car is different but I dont see why assuming the exhaust flow is at the same rate of turbulance it would loose any power with less restriction on the exhaust side of the turbo... it should allow the turbo to spool quicker. It did in my case any way. The turbo came on boost about 300 rpm sooner going from 2.5 to 3 inch.

I was talking about me personally. I run a 3" dp and a much bigger turbo. It may spool alittle faster. But with the exhaust on, there is more back pressure and much more low end torque.

You do not need to go 3.5 inch unles you are going to make over 500 WHP.

i ran open dp until i got my exhaust welded up and it spooled a lot faster
now w/ the exhaust welded up i don't get full boost till like 5k rpms
i found a guy getting rid of a thermal 3in. muffler and i know a guy that can weld up 3in. exhaust from the dp all the way back for $180
right now i have a 2 1/2" dp
how would i go about swelling it to fit the 3in dp
or should i just let the guy doin the exhaust worry about that
