Everyone HELP
Hey if you are willing to help please email me with your thoughts. I have posted numerous times about an irratic idle and all I have gotten was smart *** remarks I thought we were all here to help each other.Well here's the prob- I have a 94 ex coupe d16z6 with cold air ,a hollowed out cat, basically a straight exhaust witha tsudo pipe, chikara header and all of a sudden after my car half *** warms up it surges at idle from 1000-3000 every so often but happens less when the lights are on then my thought when the coolant fan comes on it idles steady around 1200 so what could be the problem the dealer tried to tell me that it was the IAC valve I replaced that along with the map sensor off another d16 I am building but the problem persist. The only thing is when I disconnect the throttle position sensor when running it takes the idle to 3500 and stays there so could my prob be the tps? hit me back if ya can help any thoughts appreciated. Thanks mike
are you turbocharged ? hehe JK
fromn what you're describing, it sounds like a TPS problem....do this..when the car warms up and fan comes on at least twice...
held your foot at the gas pedal at 3000 RPM, and watch the RPM needle...
then post back

no the car jumps to 3000 and stays there after I disconnect the tps.......then I have to turn off the car plug the tps back in and it idles irratic again ...........also after driving for a while sometimes the check engine light comes on but never stays on also tried to pull the codes but nothing comes up.......could ya pass this around the board
I had an irratic idle for a while, it is similar to what you described and it turned out to be my AC compressor. i took it off and then the idle was good. Not sure if it the same prob. but you might want to look.
if you suspect the tps check your voltage at the sensor
make sure it is not over .5 volts with the ignition on but not running
that or if the d is like the 92 up b t/b there is a nifty thing under the t/b that acts like a chock (it is what the coolant lines go into) sometimes that will, basiclly come unscrewed in side and cause the same simptoms

a lot fo erratic idles also cuase by bad ground on the ignitor...
try to check and see the ground for ignitor, not sure about D series, but most B series ignitor ground is located on top of the thermostat's housing

sometimes when you play w/ the TPS, it needs to be reset...do this by tapping it. i'm not BSing you. You've tried everything else, it could be it jsut needs to be reset.
hmm my buddy had that exact same problem with his 90 integra. it was a fast idle valve. I'd check the gaskets around the TB and that valve. he replaced his idle valve and everything was fine.
