Estimated cost to push ~300whp out of a k20a3?
Ok please don't flame me or tell me to search because I really need this answered. I'm reviewing a couple of my options and need to know about how much this would cost. I've never built a boosted car but I've done a lot of reading.
Does this seem like a good estimate:
-$1000 Kpro
-$600 Dyno time
-$325 INjectors
-$100 Fuel pump
-$200 wide band
-$500 gauges
-$300 FMIC and piping
-$225 wastegate
-$200 BOV
-$1200 Garrett Turbine
-$600 Exhaust Manifold
-$700 low comp pistons
-$300 Clutch
-$100 oil line
Total $6350
I want nearly 300 whp, am I on the right track? Is this enough? Not enough? Thanks

Yes I'm going to upgrade the clutch, totally forgot to add it. Are injectors/fuel pump even neccesary for this goal? How much could an internally stock k20a3 handle? I updated my list, thanks.
#4
um you will need to upgrade injectors and fuel pump when boosting.... your going to need gaskets.... um bov flange.... colder spark plugs,,,, half size fan and radiatior..... what kind of car is this going to be in ???

You can save some cash man, first off, you don't NEED to run a wideband (unless Kpro requires it idk) your tuner should have one to use while tuning.
Next the 500 for gauges, cut that down to 200 and add the extra 300 to your FMIC and piping.
For 300whp you do not need to get low comp pistons at all, especially on a k, so you can mark that off the list.
next for the turbo, for 300whp you do NOT need a $1200 turbo... you'll be fine with a smaller t3/t4. Check out the sponser section. you can get a brand new garrett t3/t4 for less than 600-in multiple trims and a/r's. So there's another 600 saved.
Also, I have a TiAL 50mm bov and a HKS GT2 style 60mm wastegate i'm selling. PM me if interested

THANKS A LOT CivicVX! Lots of good news for me. I could find a Garrett turbo for $600 new? Wow... I'd buy the BOV and WG in a second but need to find a buyer for my Accord first.

take your total price and add at least 20% for all the TONS of things that you didn't know about or forgot to list. You need to put a big pad on your budget or you will feel like you are getting nickel and dimed to death.

if all you want is 300whp... y not do some simple things and put direct port on the car and kpro, and call it a day.... ... cheapest wayyy to goo...

your list is way overkill dude. no wide band is needed the tuner will have that. NO PISTONS for 300WHP. if you dont know a lot about it just buy a kit for your car ( if available i dont keep up with the newer RSX/EP ) it will come with all that so you have less headache and guess work. then put in injectors 600-1000 CC bigger the better up to 1000 for extra room while tuning no need to do a 450-550 to save 10 dollars and find out they are maxed out. then just let the tuner handle it from there and ask his advice on which system to tune with.

Man U FTW
a lot of your prices are horribly high and there are things you dont need on there....your setup is good for 500whp...you DO NOT NEED to build your engine for 300whp for starters...i think everyone else has covered the other topics

Kpro also offers boost control using a gm solenoid and harness. About 40 bucks total and pretty effective at boost control and gear dependant boost.

haha it's cool man, just let me know if you want it. i'll sell the stuff cheap.
anyways, here's a few links to sub $600 Garretts, most of them should be good to well over 300whp

As far as I know, kpro is AEMs engine managment system (ems) for the K series....it might also have a boost controller built in too, i'm not sure. however, for 300whp you prolly won't even need a boost controller, jsut the right turbo and the right wg spring </TD></TR></TABLE>

A wideband is always good to have... regardless. If it is an RSX, they actually have wideband's from the factory

Yeah, my buddy told me to get a wideband regardless.
How much power can you get out of a k20a3 before you need internals? 300 whp was the minimum.

Re: Estimated cost to push ~300whp out of a k20a3? (WhiteOnRice)
If its going to cost you 6 GRAND then dont do it.
k-pro - $1000
dyno time- $300
used injectors - $250
fuel pump - $100
ebay intercooler - $100-150
piping - $100
ebay bov- $50
used turbo - $500-$800
manifold downpipe- $600
clutch - $500 with installation
oil inlet- $40
oil outlet - just get something from home depot
Forget the gauges and the pistons/rods.
