An engine question...
I have a 2000 LS with about 18K miles. I am planning on buying an additional B18B to build for my turbo setup. I want to send the head to portflow for work and the block to golden eagle for sleeves. Eagle rods, JE or Endyn pistons. Stock crank.
What should I look for when buying the engine? I am going to replace the rods, pistons, valves, springs, retainers, maybe cams. I obviously do not need to buy a transmission and my wiring harness should match right up since it is the exact same engine.
My goal is to have the car running on the sleeved block and my *perfect* condition, stock engine sitting in the garage just in case something happens. My car is a daily driver. What should I be looking to spend? Any tips, tricks, advice, warnings would be appreciated.

Well from what I gather, all you want is a block w/o damage to the structure itself. Your sleeving it and building it from the ground up anyways, so as long as there's no cracking/splitting of the block anywhere, I'd assume you'd be fine.
Maybe some of the more profecient engine builders here can give you the finer points on what to look for

I did the exact same thing (except I didn't have another spare motor to drive on and I didn't sleeve my block).
Without shipping, these are the approximate costs:
JE Pistons, Eagle ESP rods, RC injectors, block guard ~ $1400
Machining head, block, and crank ~$800
Polishing crank, balancing crank with new parts ~$200
That's basically it....of course if you're having the pieces shipped somewhere, you're gonna have to pay for that. Also assembling the motor (if you're doing it by yourself) or having a builder do it for you.
Everything else like your harness, tranny, etc should be fine. Mine were. You might want to get new valve springs and an ignition in case the motor you build has old ones. Some nice cams maybe? Oh yeah....try to get some sort of LSD for your tranny. A built motor on turbo has no traction whatsoever.
Add another $500-700 for the sleeving and another few hundred for other things that come up. For example, you'll probably need a new water pump, oil pump, timing belt, assorted nuts and bolts, etc.
I think I got everything....well hope that helps. Keep us posted on your work.
EDIT: These also don't include the prices for all the turbo related items of course. Those are gonna set you back quite a bit.
