Engine has LOTS of blowby????
Yeah..the PCV is a weak point in our engines. Its a small plastic valve that routes blowby gases back in to the surge tank. If it gets clogged (which it will), the blowby gases look for the next best way out which is usually the breather valve of thr dipstick tube. I read that the PCV should be replaced every 10,000 miles or so, or after ever 3 oil changes. The only cost $10 and can be bought at any car parts store.
To test the PCV:
1. remove it from the block...it should be near the the intake mani, and attached to a vacuum line that goes to the intake manifold.
2. Once you remove it, blow into it. Air should be allowed to flow in one direction only. If its clogged or if the flow is a bit restrictive, then replace it.
3. It should make a clicking sound if you shake it, but I found that, that is not a very good test. If you suspect that the PCV is bad, just replace it...Its cheap enough to do often and just may solve your problem.

On my car it looks like a plastic "L" shaped tube...it was accessible for m my passenger side (so your driver side) towards the back of the block...just follow the vacuum tubes from the intake manifold until you find one that plugs into a plastic piece that plugs into the block...or do a search...i believe someone did a scan off of a helms manual somewhere on here...
I just took mine out and looked at it and it looks very clogged and when I shake it it sounds like a bunch of stuff is in it...I am hoping that this will solve my problem. I miss my car and it seems to be running great when I have it out...so maybe this is the problem. Have you heard of this solving blow by issues before??
A clogged PCV will show the same symptoms of a blown engine. Thats why its hte very first thing you should replace if its smoking. If that's truly the isue, it 'should' solve your problem....
lets put it this way..its a cheap and easy fix that takes about 10 minutes or less. If it turns out to be the PCV, then you're good to go. If not..then tough luck...but you don't want to spend a lot of time and money on a costly rebuild to only find out later that it was only a bad $10 part...

okay...at least least you know your compression is okay...
Next is to check for headgasket leaks....look in your coolant for oil droplets ...like wise with coolant on the oil cap...if you see pastey sustance on the cap, that is a sign that your head gasket is leaking...
but before I do all that...check the PCV valve...</TD></TR></TABLE>
having same problem, replaced pcv valve, still leaking oil, possibly turbo return line or maybe even the oil drain plug gasket..damn cheap little parts.. what would the pcv valve have to do with it if it was good anyway?

guys i figured out the problem. remember what i was saying earlier? oil type of grease on block and inside the top of the hood? and at high rpm and high gear it blows some smoke and smoke comes out of the hood sometimes.
compression is still 220 220 220 220
My friend just pinpointed the problem. my valve cover gasket has a leak apparently when we changed the timing belt and put the valve cover back on you are supposed to torque down the bolts in sequence??
I think thats the problem, cuase the car doesnt lose any power
BUMP

I dont think its the gasket....there shouldn't be ANY pressure in the head area. Smoke coming out of the filter = bad.
