Engine Build Help
I am going to be rebuilding a d16y8 and I want to put a turbo on it. What do you suggest that I should focus on for the motor so when I put a turbo on, it won't blow or damage anything. I'm not looking for the fastest car out there, I just want it to be noticeably quick. Suggestions for turbo would be great also. In case you need to know the motor will be going into a 4th generation civic. Thanks.
I was think 6-8 psi. I wasn't on planning a whole lot. What would you recommend for that, OEM rebuild or forged internals. Like I said I don't plan on being a fastest car in town and I don't plan on taking it to the drag strip, just some with some get up and go. Thanks
if your looking for just a little bump in hp, id say just do a oem rebuild. thats what i did in my em1. idealy tho forged internals would be best, but i could justify spending like $800 when i didnt realy need them
Would I just get a rebuild kit from somewhere like Napa or Autozone or should I get everything separately. Also, What kind of turbo would you guys suggest?
I recently did a SOHC VTEC vitara build and used a Garrett T3 with 50 trim compressor wheel and .48 AR turbine housing on 10psi and it's pretty fast. The kid bought a ebay kit and after he trashed the ebay turbo and manifold bought the garrett for $250-300 and a new manifold for $100. Spent $130 on the pistons and $300 on rods using Hondata S300 and so far it's been a good set up and he is happy with it.
