Which one do you think and why? I have a chance to get either one real cheap for those who need to know....

ZC, it has a better geared tranny, stronger bottom end, better head, intake mani, and better just about everything else.

I have one in my REX and love it(ZC). Pulls nice all the way to redline. I'm only thinking of the JDM D15b because these go for under $400.00 and there is some guy on this board that dyno'd 202 HP on one to him.

When you turbo a vtec car does that complicate things?

No. Most of Honda's VTEC motors have higher compression, that might be the only thing you need to look into. 2mm headgasket would be a quick fix.

i like the sohc d16, 1 cam makes life simple and there is more parts and things for d16a/z6/y8...liek cams and such, i made 205whp on my d16a/z6 on roughly 6psi (.4 bar spring in my tial wastegate) in my 90 crx-si...im running 8.7:1 compression with zex cam and other things and it just works really well, responded better than i thought it would....im running a garrett t3 60 trim.....i like the sohc cause they are easy to find, parts are easy to find, and the bottem ends on the sohc d16 motors are strong...just never given credit

REXSiT3 could you send me an IM of what your cars set-up was at the time of the 205whp dyno ?
You meantioned having lower compression an 6psi with a 60-trom, that's almost exsactly what I'm going to run...
T3 .60/.63 A/R 60-trim with internal wastegate and fender open dump
My compression is going to be 8.4/1 b/c I'm using an A6 head on a Z6 block ( which is running N/A right now, first the WRX "stage1" turbo, then the T3 ''stage2" will go on, I already have both.

And my vote goes to SOHC B/c it is simple to work on and is EXTREMLY INTERCHANGABLE !!! I lowered my compression without ever changing pistons or a thickheadgasket !!!
