Emanage Communication Problems
Hey I have the emanage connected in my 02 civic but I only have the Power and Ground connected to the ECU. The emenage is lighting up but when I test it I used the greddy support tool cable but I have to use a USB to serial adaptor for it to connect to my laptop. When I connect it and open the support tool program it will say that the system is offline. Do I need to connect the rest of the wiring or is there something wrong with the adaptor. I tried using a raido shack adaptor,Belkins and Ioe Gear.
I see it on the support tool now. im gonna give it a try. It doesn't make a difference that I ony have the power and ground connected does it? It showld still communicate right?

USB will not work, trust me, i tried. LOL
It is designed the way it is because the E01 is meant to be at the other end of the cable...thus a device. Basically the E-Manage is a little computer by itself... so to connect via USB you would need a data transfer USB cable, or a "crossover USB cable".
It is identical to connecting two computers via crossover cable.
You can try making one if you want...i certainly didn't have much luck. Be careful, tho, as USB does carry power and some things don't handle power well if it isn't supposed to be there.

ok i have the greddy support tool and have it directly connected to my laptop, but i am having trouble getting a connection with the e-manage. i have it on com port 3 and it says online, but it cant connect. i am trying to update the main unit and it is just saying connection in progress or whatever and it has one bar of progress passed and it has been like this for the past 5 minutes. the time past keeps increasing, but nothing is happening. the LED on the e-manage is solid orange now if that means anything. what is the problem?
Try turning off the car un-plug the cable and close the program in your computer. Then turn the car on and connect the cable. Start the program and try to in-pot the information from the main unit first. For some reason mine would do this every now and then and this would fix it.
right now i am resetting the ECU and restarting my laptop. i am going to see if it works after this hopefully
do i need to have the engine on to work with the e-manage, or can i just have the car in the "on" position without starting the engine?

still not working. the support tool software is acting weird. it says the software is online veen when the support tool isnt plugged in. and it only works on com port 3.
what should i do????
what should i do????
it will generally only work on one COM port, just depends on your computer setup as to which one. As for the software, what version are you running? There is a yahoo group ( http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/emanage/ ) that has pretty much all the updates, i think the newest support tool version is 1.13. If that's current, it could also be the Firmware on the unit itself, the newest being 0139, i think.
It seems that if you connect it to the car first, THEN open the support tool, it is a bit easier on the unit. Also, if you are in real-time communication mode and make changes there is no need to update the main unit as it does it on the fly. Not sure if that helps at all, but there ya go. heh :-)

Often times you need the driver for some usb-serial adapters to work. After the drivers are installed, you should be able to configure the usb extension to use the required comm port.

oh it's all good now I got it up and running. I had the com port on my laptop on the wrong com port. The com port you plug it into needs to match the one your support tool is on or there is no communication
