Default EGT sensor with s300

so from a little research i found out that the s300 will be able to receive a signal from a EGT sensor. my car is a 400whp turbo gsr i have a Wideband A/F ratio on the downpipe. but i feel that its necessary to have a way to monitor each cylinder. so what do u guys think about EGTs on a setup like that? would u run on EGT on cyl#3 only maybe or run 4 on each runner?

if you want to monitor each cylinder you would want a sensor on each runner. If you wanted to monitor them as a whole then one where they merge would be used

What kind of EGT setup are you running? I have an EGT in each runner. I'm using the AEM 4 channel thermocouple amplifier which has 0-5v output for each EGT sensor. I ran the output from the AEM to the Hondata analog inputs.

i currently do not have any EGT stuff on the car. but im looking at the PLX setup, it looks like it would require 4 separate sensor modules which would get kinda bulky. i will ok at the AEM stuff also.

As has already been said, if you want to monitor each cylinder, you'll need 4 sensors. There's no other way around that. Personally, I love it when a tuner does individual cylinder tuning with EGTs and widebands in each runner, but for the average person, just one of each sensor at the collector is enough for tuning, and realistically, you don't need an EGT sensor for scooting around town, driving down to Florida for vacation, or even having a little fun during an HPDE.

I started with the PLX stuff. I found the AEM setup to be far easier and smaller. You will need 4 K type thermocouples but it is actually really easy to set up once you have the thermocouples and the AEM piece.

I love having the 4 egt readout in Smanager and datalogs. I've been slowly working on leaning the car out at part throttle for better mileage (it is my daily) and seeing the EGTs has been helpful. As you said fuel control for each cylinder is pretty cool.

with the setup you have would my tuner be able to setup a boost cut if a cylinder was leaning out and starting to get hot? because thats really why i am looking in to EGT sensors not just for tuning purposes but also as a safety measure

I don't think you can do this with Hondata. V3 does have fuel/oil pressure cuts but I don't think they have a generic safety cut function. Also you would need 4 inputs ( if you wanted to monitor all 4) and as far as I can tell the most you would have right now is 2 (again I'm basing this on assumptions since I don't have my hands on V3 yet)

You could always make this suggestion on Hondata's forum in the S300 section. There is a wish list thread in there.

The 8 additional analog inputs in S300 are not monitored by the S300.

That said I have found the EGT data to be very fascinating and helpful while working to clean up my part throttle tune.

I wonder if anyone could build a curcuit that coukd take the egt output, program it to say, if x voltage > y voltage, trigger relay, and have it cut power to an ebc to drop the boost down to wastegate level, and sound an audible chime/light up a light on the dash, so you know youve hit elevated egts. Cutting the boost down to wastegate pressure should also help drop the egt since the combustion pressures would drop.

Or would the whole thing be pointless?

Of course, thats assuming youre running an ebc with pressures higher than your wastegate.

I think the ability to datalog the extra sensors would be most beneficial but you can do what you want with Hondata V3 advanced protection. It can use any analog input and would cut engine power.
