Thats a lie.
My EGT is in the DP and I reach 1100f on the freeway and ~1300f at WOT in 4th gear.

Huh?, Not at all. Infact that's far from the truth.

Re: EGT sensor in DP? (Tchleung)
just drill and tap it, or get it done. My FR mani has two egt taps, one for the autometer gauge and one for my AEM datalogging
The one for the datalogging is a little farther from the head then i would like, but still within 5 inches

Downpipe will not be too accurate...
The turbocharger is a huge heatsink... All the heat will mostly be used to propel the turbo, and whatever comes out of the downpipe will not be the actual EGT reading.
Then why bother getting an EGT gauge if you will be getting lower readings? It gives you a false sense of security IMO. You can still install it at the DP, but only to use it for a vague monitor mainly to detect sudden changes of EGT.
