Default EGT Questions

Well, I have gotten my new motor running and have been slowly breaking it in. I hit 300 miles, changed the oil which came out almost completely clean, and now I'm up to about 400 miles. My question is this, what are your EGTs typically when you are just cruising at low throttle like 10-20% and 65-70mph? I am seeing 750 and sometimes even the warning light at 800 is coming on. I'm just curious what the normal EGT reading for cruising is.

700-725C??? if tha seems way to high!! that is 1300F!!! holy **** and you are just cruising...

i always shoot for 1000-1100 F and this is tapped at the # 1 runner about 2 inchest from the head..

As stupid as this probably is, I've never checked if it was in C or F.. I'm assuming its C. Its an Apexi EL EGT gauge. I would say that it spends most of its time in te 700-725 range, but occasionally goes up to the 750+ mark. I'm not running any boost yet on the motor, but on my old motor it did the same thing until I hit boost and the EGTs would actually drop a bit.

i ahve the autometer too , like idle is 800 F , street cruising , maybe 1000F tops, and highway is like 1300F maybe 1350, right around in there.
i have the max rev manifold, so mine is on the second port , right behind the WG . maybe 2-3 in off the head, ? something like that

Highway cruising around 75mph mine is around 12-1300 at the most. Around town if i stay out of boost is 1000F or less.
