egt mounting question
i am getting ready to mount my egt on my mani, i have read that most people mount it on the 3rd cylinder, the problem with that is my wastegate tube is right there and i dont know if i have the room for it or if the WG being right there will mess up the reading, also its a autometer and they recomend if it is a turbo car to put it after the turbo, why would i want to do that? and finally it needs a 12 volt connection, is that a constant 12 volt or can i hook it up to my accesory?
thanks
thanks

accessory 12v will be fine, I'm also curious on the before/after turbo question as I too will be installing an EGT probe soon

Some put it on the manifold near runner # 3 and some on the downpipe. If you place it on the downpipe, you will see lower EGT's because the gas has a little room to cool down. I wouldn't use that as your only source to tune, because of this reason, there is no one temperature that you should shoot for.

what about the WG being on the 3rd runner will that cause inconsistancies? i have to ask, why is the egt put on the 3rd runner?

#3 tends to run hotter then the rest. as far as the wastegate I would say as long as it is a good 1 to 2" in front of it you should be fine

yeah there is like 3 in from the head to the WG so i dont know if it will be able to go there, although the WG is on a 90 degree elbow, do you think that will make a difference?

that's why you put it as close to the turbo as possible. it'll be like running the EGT on #2. it won't be the exact reading you want. but it'll be close. Usually when peopel can't mount it on #3, they mount it on the downpipe

one of the main reasons people put the egt probe after the turbo is that if there were to ever be a problem with the probe (like say, a piece of it broke off) it wouldnt hurt the turbine at all.
