Default egt gauge

i have a turbo setup that i want to put on my motor, wastegate has a 9lb spring. would i be ok if i got a base map and use a pyrometer to keep an eye on my motor instead of buying a wideband until i have the money to get a tune.
thanks

i really dont mean this in a bad way but i have read alot of threads where people run there turbos without a tune and some of them even say that you dont need one unless you want to get the most out of your setup. i will get a tune but i was just wondering if you can monitor your a/f ratio with a pyrometer instead of a $200 a/f gauge
