Default ebc instead of pwm

got dyno tuned last night and my boost solenoid failed on me so i had to get tuned off the wastegate. after talking to the shop, they said that the pwm in hondata and neptune isnt as "good" as a external ebc. so im considering going with a greddy profec or maybe a nlr. is there any real benefit from one to the other or are they all about the same?

I'm always a bit skeptical of people who I'm giving money to (borderline paranoid?), so I play Mr Negative. If they stand to profit by selling you the EBC and not having to deal with something new, they aren't looking out for your best intrests. Hondata/ECtune/etc boost control works decent, expecially for the price - usually an extra $50 or less. True you can't change it once its burned in (w/o laptop), but you usually have 2 settings (like dry and wet, radials/slicks, etc), and there's really no reason to change it.

Chances are your tuner may not feel comfortable adjusting the PWM system, so maybe its time for another tuner - one that keeps up with the times. From what I've seen/heard, most EBC's are a nightmare to configure. If you've done it dozens of times, it would be easy though.

Just some food for thought.

they arent selling me the ebc. my pwm solenoid failed on the dyno and the tuner just said he prefers using an ebc and that i should look into getting one of those instead of replacing the solenoid that failed. i can get a greddy profec b spec 2 for 100 bucks tonight, so i think i might go that route.

Either was you look at it your still going to be running a Solenoid to control your boost. This is the reason I bought the AEM Solenoid, I know everyone that sells the MAC's for cheaper say they are the same model # as the AEM Sol, but I have seen alot of different pigtail configurations, so who is to say that they are internally identical to what AEM sells?

Also doesnt AEM have a 12mo warranty on parts like this? I know the AMS-500 does not give you the ability to control boost in every gear, so right there you would be stepping down in boost contol IMO, and why would you want to spend $800 on the 1000? Will you really ever need that device on your car? I have played with the PWM on Neptune alot lately and I love it, you can give the WG 100% duty to help spool the turbo a little faster and then quickly back out the duty to hit your target and then ramp it back up, works quite well on my car.

If I was you I would just fork out the $100 and buy the AEM Sol and give it another shot.

tdautoworks is replacing the solenoid for me, so i guess i can give it another shot. i got that greddy profec to use until i get the new solenoid and if i run into problems on the dyno next time, ill have a backup boost controller
