ebay RFL bov causing compressor surge
f.w.i.w. i had a real rfl come back to me the other day, the adhesive holding the horn to the bov body melted and get into the valve bore and cause it to hang open. i can see the other way holding true also causing it to not open. a little 3m scotch brite and it is all good.
this was on a wrx.

The problem isn't the spring. When you took it apart, you should have noticed the top side of the piston where the spring sits is NOT lubricated. From there you get metal on metal friction. Go to Home Depot, get a can of HOIL, and lube the top section of the bov- only. And if you cut the spring, you should probably get a new one, or put in some more washers.
i have a Real Turbo XS bov and i get the Compressor surge with no washers. I even went off the website and it says to add one washer at a time put the BOV back together and take it for a spin. Everytime I added a washer it got worse. I had 8 washers in the BOV before I gave up. No where on their website it says to cut the spring. (which is my only option left) I have moved the vacuum tube around and it is now on my Vacuum manifold which is off my Brake booster. Unless it is WOT pull i always get Surge from low boost.
Anybody else have this problem? If i cut the spring can you even order a new one? they no longer make my BOV.

i just got mine off ebay ($22!) it looks almost the same as the real one i had a year ago or so. it came with two springs, i took one out and will probably end up cutting the other one, but its still not sprung as hard as the real one i had.
its simply the spring supplied with the bov is designed for alot of boost and is very stiff, therefor you need to cut some coils off the spring... whether or not it says to do so on the site.... it works very well and thats what I had to do to mine and a friends
