Default Eagle rod

The torque spec on the instructions are confusing me a bit. When you use a 3/8 socket to tighten them up is it 43 ft lbs? Because it saids bolt head 7/16 for the same one. Basically my question is how do you know if you have the newer 3/8 bolts? From using a 3/8 socket to tighten it up, or is it measured by the actual bolt itself at the bottom?

If you use a 7/16" socket, you have the 3/8" bolt....torque to 43

If you use a 3/8" socket, you have a 5/16" bolt...torque to 28

I'm stalking you Earl, haha.
Are the 5/16 bolts still available/commonly used?

Thanks earl thats exactly what I needed. The only problem now is that when checking for clearances I torqued one rod to 43 lbs, you think I may have damaged the bolt? It did feel weird tightening it up, which is why I stopped on that rod. Im pissed now, I though I had the newer one's. Im wondering If I should buy a new set of rods. Im looking for 400whp and would hate for a rod to go threw my Bensons sleeves. I bought these rods about 2 years ago( I know, I took a long break) and thought there were the 3/8 till know. Anyone using these rod bolts with good success?

Bolt specs are based on 75% of yield, so you have certainly exceeded
yield torque.
It would be interesting to measure the length of the suspect bolts and compare that to the other bolts.

Give Eagle a call on Monday and get some new bolts. The 5/16" bolts will do the job if they are installed right the first time.Over-torquing and stretching the bolts is not the way to get them to survive.

Ron</TD></TR></TABLE>All Eagles sold from AUTHORIZED dealers now have the 3/8" diameter bolts. What you buy off of e-bay or extra cheap web sites could be anything. Be careful when the price is too cheap.
