Default dumptube options?

just wanted to see what would be my best option for the dumptube on the wastegate. i surely dont want to leave it open and melt something! some people tell me aim it to the botom of the car. what do you think?

p.s. if it matters, it will only be pushing 8 lbs. on a t3/t04e in a b18c civ.

I got a piece of stainless steel flex tubing and extended it to the ground and cut a circle in the plastic guard on the bottom to go through it

I used a SS flex pipe from JC Whitney.

Works great and you can run it ANYWHERE you want.

Here's some pics of the flex tube as I was installing my clutch. You can see the heat wrap around it. It hangs in the pics because the DP was off otherwise it's held onto the DP.

It goes in front of the turbo then I have a clamp to hold it to the DP. Never had a problem yet.

I think i remember seeing that vid, that was pretty crazy. Good thing you got away without any serious damage. And it was a elevated dyno too... ha does it make you laugh now?

wow! you guys make decisions alot easier! anybody else with pics? i also like the idea of running the tube into the dp. it probably wont be near as loud huh? if i choose to go this route, where on the dp would it be logical to connect it. does it matter? will i lose power with this method? i know its a lot of questions, but i feel like its a very crucial part of the turbo setup.

You'll lose some power routing it into the exhaust but its not really noticable unless your running big power numbers.

Just so you know....that flex pipe stuff is very thin so the noise (and heat) through it is loud. Thicker piping that is welded would be better.

I dumped it under the block since I don't really care about the noise. I actually kinda like it sometime. But then again I never punched it everywhere I go like other so it does not open very often.

With the SS Flex Pipe can you weld a flange on it? Id like to have mine dump back into the exhaust.

I was thinking about using a flexpipe too, simply beacuse I didn't want to have to cut and weld a 180 bend to make one. Here is the flex pipe I was panning on buying. Anyone have any experience or can reccomend a flex pipe? (Sorry to jack your thread)

it'll work but those dumptubes are thinwalled metal, the noise radiates from it even if you connect it to your exhaust.

I don't know about welding to it. I had a 90 degree pipe off my dumptube flange and I used the u bolt the flex pipe came with to secure it to the 90 pipe. Worked great but I hated the noise it made cause of the thinwalled metal. After I got regular dumptube welded up it made MUCH less noise.

nope....all thanks to zipties There is about a good 6-8" gap between the dumptupe and AC lines. Plus I ended up wrapping the AC lines in with some heatwrap for extra protection.

No you can't weld it to my surprise. It is way to thin and the metal will just melt. Instead the guy who welded everything for me went ahead and welded a one inch piece of pipe to the flange then we clamped the flex pipe to that pipe with a heavy duty clamp. No leaks yet and since the entire flex pipe is wrapped with heat wrap the sound isn't bad. highly recommended because I wouldn't have been able to do it any other way really

You may be able to route the wastegate to the exhaust w/ the flex tube, but you ca't weld it like I said above.

Let me get this straight. You clamped the flex pipe onto a peice of thicker pipe and had the peice of pipe welded to the dp?

Yep. You can see the flex pipe and the clamp. The clamp is to tighten it down on the pipe that is welded to the flange underneath the flex pipe
