Yes, it gets really hot at high RPM's and the motor doesn't like it at all. I quickly stopped that as I don't want my pistons to get all melted again, I just bought shiny new ones due to a boost controller mishap at the drag strip. I think it could be done with something like the Endyn blower mod and the LHT intercooler setup, but that's several thousand dollars worth of stuff and my bypass assembly is just a few hundred dollars worth of stuff. I saw where some company did it with a Mini Cooper S, but their setup already had a post-SC intercooler and they made a lot less boost, both from the SC and the turbo.

I was amazed it worked as well as it did for the first time running it. There's still a couple of bugs to be worked out, but it's mostly complete. I see 18 PSI at a little over 4000 RPM and I'm running the .82 turbine housing from ATP. It's a lot of fun, but so wierd feeling for a turbo setup, much smoother than any other turbo setup I've tried.

They wanted me to to do one, but I didn't get the go-ahead on it from Jeff and when I left he was in his office. Some people don't like you doing burnouts in front of their place of business, so I drove away quietly. Man, do I sound like a giant wuss or what?

On Friday I'm driving the family to Atlanta to spend the 4th weekend with my brother and his family. I'm going to try to get the cam gears and a longer throw bypass valve actuator so we can get it running a bit stronger, then maybe hit FMS Thursday for T&T.

Post up a pic of that snappy new JDM turbo mani you picked up for it.

And WTF is up with CH? Seems like it's been down for days now.

Not on this motor, but I should have a new N/A motor in it in a month or two that's going to get a 100-shot.

sick setup. I would try a water injection kit as well. And definitly drop that vtec to engage at 3000 to 3300. That made the biggest low end gains on a friends old jrsc setup.

dropping vtec probably wont gain much in this setup due to the backpressure in the exhaust... (turbos are good for that)

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by rmcdaniels &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">I extended the throttle body and modified the JRSC intake manifold plenum so I could add a big bypass valve that lets the SC recirc when opened. I use a checkball with a small bleeder hole set to just shy of my overall target boost to control the valve. As the cumulative boost from the turbo and the SC approaches my target (18 PSI in tbhis case), the valve starts to open, which starts to open the bypass valve, which lowers the boost the SC makes, so the valve stops opening until the turbo makes more boost and the overall boost hits the target, then it starts opening more, etc., until the valve is completely open, the SC is completely bypassed, and the turbo is making all the boost. I can't believe how smoothly it operates, I can't feel the transition at all. </TD></TR></TABLE>

When the turbo spools up, is the JRSC still running, but the pressure is bypassed? Is it possible to have a solenoid clutch of some sort to disengage the supercharger to reduce wasted power?

As long as it's not compressing air, the M62 only takes about 1 HP to spin (according to Eaton). I originally designed a clutch into the system, but I'd have to have a clutch that would stand up to engaging at several thousand RPM and the rotor assembly has significant mass. Most of the major positive displacement SC players (JRSC, Kenne Bell, Magnuson, etc.) use a bypass assembly to take the blower offline when you are off-throttle, so I figured it's good enough, I just use a great big bypass valve so I can bypass it at full throttle.

Here's pics of when we were fitting the assembly on the new engine, it should be a lot clearer:
