dsm injector question, pics inside

when i received my injectors, the black tips on the ends of them were cracked, or in peices, are these necessary? if they are needed, where can i get new ones?

pintle caps. You can run them without them.

I'm pretty sure they just protect the pintles from contaminents/impact etc. I can't remember for sure, but I think I'm running one of mine without one...
