Default to DRAG, or not to DRAG is the question?

Lately I've been doing a lot of thinking about whether I should supercharge or turbo charge. With a turbo I will eat up a lot of competition and with a supercharger I will have moderate gains and no problems (strap it on, and forget it) and with a turbo (DRAG III) I'm afraid that i will hurt my engine right away and lose the benifits of a turbo. I guess what im trying to get from this is that I would like to hear some info on how hard or easy it is to keep up on maintance of a turbo and shy me away from jackson racing (even know i get a hell of a deal) thanks for any info

I've had both. And i recommend the Drag. Even with my stock exhaust choking it off on the top end it sure feels like i'm making the same power(or more) as the JRSC in the midrange, and as soon as the Thermal exhaust and 3" downpipe go on the difference should be staggering.

supers generally tend to harm the engine more than turbos do. also you'd probably have to worry about turbo lag etc. i think you have a blower and a turbo mixed up in regards to gains. supers have better power gains with more wear on the engine.

check this link out for some info about N/A, Turbo, and Super:

Hey roach...On 4cyl hondas Turbos normally give MUCH larger gains than SCs do. I notice that you have a Fbod and are probably thinking about a centrifigal blowre as opposed to the Roots blower the JRSC is.

yeah you're right... i always thought roots-style was only used for older cars, since cent-blowers (at least on fbods) go hand in hand with EFI.

Mike, forced induction on Hondas/4 cylinders are a whole nother game. You boost way higher with a turbo than a supercharger, because your pulleys can only get so small. And a turbo is intercooled, so less hot air going into the engine. Superchargers are much harder to intercool. JR is working on one, but won't be out for a while.

They're is a centrifugal style supercharger available by Vortech, but only for the Civic SI... though they just released one for the Integra, but it doesn't make as much as a turbo I don't think.

centrifugal superchargers and low displacement 4 bangers are a joke. At least the V8 guys have the torque to get the blower into it's powerband...

Vortech sc? Take the worse things about a sc and a turbo, put em all together and add an extra 1000 bones to the price of a good turbo kit and you got yourself the vortech supercharger. If you want to drag, go for the turbo. If you want some extra kick definately supercharge. IF you have a b18b dont even bother w/ the supercharger. Just my 2 cents.

Personally, for a street ride i'd prefer a jrsc. My friend has one on his gsr and performs great and doesnt need a whole lot of maintaince. but then again on the drag strip my other friends b18c1 drag3 powered EG civic puts down some serisous ETs. So its up to you if you're only going to goto the strip every now and again and you'll be happy with a high 13 second car then go with the jrsc. Else go all out build you motor, run 20 psi of boost and have a mean machine!

what kind of maintaining does it require, monthly, quarterly, or just a brief checkup everyonce in awhile?
