Drag turbo kits are definately not street legal. Is the greddy kit even legal yet? I do not think it is.

Stupid question: so only turbos with external w/gs are illegal? Is that nationwide? If so, how do you pass emissions every year?

You take the turbo off the car to pass emissions. Just having an external WG does not make it illegal, but venting the WG to open atmosphere does. The rules are different in every state, though.

CARB dont mean anything really unless your in Cali. However, if somthing is CARB certified you can rest assured that it should pass any other state since Cali is so strict....
However, back to the question at hand, is the drag kit street legal. It depends on which state your in...With the open loop WG, i doubt it's legal in any state. But if you route it to be a closed loop, and get your tuning done right, it could pass some emission tests in some states, but porbably definetly not cali.
I also believe the GReddy kit is CARB certified and basically "street legal" AS IS. Meaning you change somthing, they will possilby inherently change the overall legality of the kit....remember it's the kit as a whole that got the CARB number, and im pretty sure the turbo they used plays a role in the emissions due to thermodynamics of particular designs, blah blah blah. But your in CT so i dunno what your laws are up there. i guess when buying the kit it's like a warranty on the car, you change somthing and the warranty could be in jeopardy if the part in question caused it to fail.
Happy Dustin i compromised.
