Default Downpipe Mounting Bracket?

The stock exhaust had a mounting bracket holding the downpipe to the engine block. Is it necessary to rig one up for a turbo downpipe?

What do people normally do for stability and to prevent cracking?

I just put in a Thermal 3" and have the exhaust hanging from the hangers and then bolted to a Carsound 3" cat. That then goes to the downpipe via a flexible ball joint (custom made). Is that enough to protect the DP or does it need to be fixed in some way to the block?

Anyone?
Does everyone's downpipe just bolt right to their CAT without being secured in some way to the engine block (as is on the stock)?

I had a mufflershop make a bracket that attatches to the downpipe and anchors to a screw on the block. It cost me no more than $10.

Oh and it helps too. I know this because I was in a bad accident and everything got crused except my manifold and downpipe because I had the bracket made!

You should also have flex pipe too!

what is everyone's else like? Do all turbo kits neglect mounting the dp to the engine block? Is it ok then to leave it like this as long as you have a flex piece in the middle?

just keeping this topic alive and hoping others will respond. I'm really curious as to whether you really need to bracket the DP to the block if the entire exhaust is suspended with hangars and there is a flexible joint inline before the CAT.

thanks!

I think it would be ok, my dc headers don't have it and I've had them on for 2 years.

The downpipe on teh drag kit will come up short. You need to get something custom made to fit. I just took off my cat and ran a downpipe using a flexpipe from kragen and welded a 2.5'' 3 bolt flange welded to a 6'' of 2.5'' wide pipe then connected the flex pipe to the dp and pipe then bolted it all up then clamped em down.

put a flex pipe and a bracket or two on that downpipe or your manifold will crack..only be a matter of time
