Default DOOOHHHH!!....another engine build hurdle...oversized bearings????

engine build hurdle no.2

i just found out from my machinist that my crank needs to be ground becuase one of the rod journals is out of spec...(didn't think it would be that bad, i guess the guy i bought the block off of spun a bearing)....he told me i would have to use oversized bearings...sooooooo, my question is, who makes oversized bearings and are they as good as Honda bearings? also, does anyone know the actual bearing size specs for the HOnda color bearings (in other words, has anyone ever mic'ed the bearings)? this is sorta beginning to suck...

anytime u spin a bearing either main or rod u have to turn the crank if its a main u have to linebore the block

well, i kinda knew that already ....but i'd like to know what company makes oversied bearings and the cons of using such bearings over Honda...

also, if anyone has specs on Honda bearings, i'd like to see the actual sizes...it's a long shot, but maybe i could use Honda bearings?just maybe?

You can get the oversized bearing from Honda, and you only need to use the oversized bearing for that one rod... no need to do all four.

If the crank has been turned then honda bearings will not work. The different colors are very very small differences in size and you will need at least .010 over bearings depending on how much has to be taken off the crank. I would find a good crank and use honda bearings.

I had to have a Z6 crank turned. I forget what they took off, but I was able to use Honda oversized bearings. Or at least the shop said they were from Honda (he supplied them)...

Once you spin a bearing it is a good idea to get a new crank and just use normal sized bearings.

sorry to bust in but the only time you need different sized bearings from honda only if you machine the crank from a spun bearing??? what about when you change to aftermarket rods, do you keep the stock spec size of the bearings??

ACL makes a 25 over bearing and they are the same tri-metal bearing as honda. Id use those...seen that same setup in a race car running 550whp with no compalints.

so how would i check my clearances with these? do they make different sizes as with Honda bearings? what if i need a tighter or looser one?
