Default does anyone know!!!!!

ok, over the weekend i put a 92-95 civic ex/si motor (d16z6) into a 97 dx coupe (d16y7) i noticed that there was a sensor down by the crank on the 97 dx motor that looked like a crank sensor..

ok, now my question is:
do i have to have this with the d16z6??
i am using the 97 dx ecu with a RPM activated switch to control vtec..
i am also using the 97 dx intake manifold....
what is that sensor by the crank??

thanks
brian

get the correct ecu if possible out of a 92-95 ex or hatchback si - vtec does not just involve activating the solenoid........the ecu has a different and more aggressive set of fuel maps for the vtec lobes than the normal lower rpm lobes...... your vtec just wont be the same. - not to mention the ecu makes sure the conditions are right before activating vtec by making sure there is enough oil pressure in the head to run such an aggressive cam.

just my 2 cents.

(ps - im not sure on ur sensor, but i would say if u get the correct ecu - u could leave that plug on the harness unplugged since the ecu dosnt support that senor on that engine)

for the fuel tell him to get a apex vafc or the field vafc you will then be good to go for fuel and vtec

just swap the whole oil pump assembly with the sensor and all...then just plug it in...if you dont connect that sensor..ECU will not be able to time motor right and you WILL get a CEL.
