does anyone have a msd intank fuel pump?
if so, how much hp could this fuel pump handle? it looks awfully small but, the msd catalog claims it could handle up to 500 hp. just need to know if there is any merit to this claim. thanks in adv

Im sure it can handle 500hp, but at what fuel pressure? Stock pump can handle 400whp but at stock fuel pressure. You see whrere Im going with this?

Im being serious.
Per hondata website:
"As the fuel pressure rises, the volume of fuel the pump can flow drops.
This means that the fuel pump can flow enough fuel for large amounts of power if the the fuel pressure is kept low. This means that large injectors will need to be used.
What is important to note is that this pump (and most others) has an internal bypass valve that opens at 75 psi.
So from this graph, Hondas running the stock pump, and a rising rate regulator top out at 75 psi and about 200hp. So, this is not a good solution.
But, if you run your stock fuel pressure (say 40 psi) and this stock fuel pump, 650cc injectors will easily provide you fuelling for low 300 wheel HP. Honda computers will easily idle a 1600cc engine on 720cc injectors.
At higher pressures the fuel pump works harder. At 75 psi the pump is generating 40% more heat than at 35 psi. This will obviously heat your fuel more than necessary. "
And Im not being sarcastic. Alot of pumps will mislead you and say it can support 500hp, but they dont tell you the entire story.
Things you should ask:
1) At what pressure will the max out at?
2) at what voltage were the test performed?
3) can it handle high fuel pressure.
Well I guess I was wrong when I said it could support 400hp.

ARt you are very true many companies mislead you. I would highly reccommend Base your fuel pump decision on your fuel pressure.
Theers not many fuel pumps that can deliver the needed pressure of many of our fmus setups. so be very weary when you choose things.

thanks for the info guys especially art. very helpful info. as for my setup, i'm using the hondata 2b, 720cc injectors, sard fpr, msd intank pump (as mentioned) so the fuel pressure shouldn't be as drastic as running a fmu setup?
