I bought this for use with uberdata...but I'm not sure if I need to get the zif socket for the additional 8 dollars???

I just bought that (should be shipping Monday, whoopee
) and opted for the ZIF socket. If you read the Uberdata thread it is deemed a worthwhile investment.

I bought my burner from the same guy. He's a good shipper. He ships fast. He can add the ZIF and he even sold me some 27C256 chips ! And the power supply and everything!
Yeah I picked up the ZIF and the power supply... I'm fairly hyped about this program
Can somebody explain exactly how a ZIF works, and why it's better? The guy at the electronics shop I went to said the ZIF has a less positive contact, so less accurate.
I just wish I didn't have to do all this wiring and buy a new distributor and stuff

Using a normal IC Socket you have to push the chip in, and force it out.
ZIF stands for Zero Insertion Force.
A ZIF socket has a little lever. Lift the lever up and it releases the chip, push lever down and it holds the chip.
Definately recommended

hmm, doesn't say that burner supports 29c256 chips, or does it? I've been hearing from people in the uberdata thread that the 29c256 chips are the best to use. true/false? I wanna make sure I use the best chip and burner combo so that I wont have any errors or problems when writing.

Yea deffintly worth it.
It is basicly a clamp with a lever to clamp and release the chip.
