Default Do I need head studs?

Just wondering if i would need them on my B16A2 running 14psi / 300whp. Im sure i could be safe and do it, but is it really something to worry about?

If you got the money, it's a good buy. A thicker head gasket will drop the compression a liitle and head studs will keep the head from lifting. It's good insurance if you got the time and money.

I'd go with a set of arp studs. They are only like $120 a set from summit. You could also try a thicker head gasket but i have always just used the oem MLS head gasket and have had no problems with it. And with the ARP studs you can take your head off any time you need to and not have to worry about buying new head bolts. New studs are definatly cheap insurance

i dont know too much about all the actual work. But do you need to take out all the springs and valves to pull the head off? and how hard is it to put in new studs
?

you can leave the springs and retainers, but you will have to change the headgasket

Get headstuds. They're $89shipped from "lightning" on here. You can't resue stock head bolts, but you can reuse these...which helps cost in the long run. There's no reason to pass them up.

how many miles on it. is the head off it??
if the heads off, then yes. might as well do it now
if it isnt off, then you dont need to right now. But when you blow a headgasket, i would get them then

nice questions. I have 101,000 miles on my car. yeah.. but it still runs strong. i just drove alot on the highway. The head is NOT off though thats why im thinking about all this. Its a bitch to get all that stuff off. What is the worst that can happen if i dont change them out? The head lifts and then...

OT. Are there only head studs and no head bolts? im kinda new at this.

When the engine comes from the factory, there are eight bolts that go down through the head and tighten into the block. You must remove the bolts to get the head off.

With ARP hardware, there are double-threaded studs that tighten into the block when the head is removed. When you put the head on, you slip the head down over the studs and secure it by tightening eight nuts down over the ends of the studs.

Negative, you can reuse oem headbolts. I reuse my oem headbolts and made 340hp with no problems.

being that my head wont be off im gonna stick with my stock setup. What will happen if the OEM headbolts give out? Anything catastrophic?

Heh heh, yeah, think about it. Your headgasket will blow and worse, you could warp your head.
