Default Do i have issues? pics***updated compression numbers

Posted this on 2 boards to see about your guys opinion.

Well last week i put the vacuum manifold on and fixed my exhaust leak. My car is has the infomus surging idle now. from 1000 to 1400 up and down. No problem i get ahold of Dave for a retune set up for sunday.

I was at work today and my car sounds like a mac truck agian. Could be the super high idle or i just never really heard my exhaust without that exhaust leak. (it was a pretty big one)

So i was doing some searching around at work found a post to take the tubing off the IM for this obd1 to obd2 box, to see if that would clear up the idle. I unpluged this tube with the car running and the idle went crazy high. prolly around 4krpm. i pluged that back in and notice smoke coming from the crank case tube. pretty much just had this tube sitting there and not routed back into anything. I got scared and went around to the back of the car this is what i find.

Now Please tell me i am not fucked. Maybe my car is just running super rich. My vacuum at idel is 21-22ish at 3krpm is below 10. So i get home pull my plugs.

Not sure but if you can see the haze there thats alot of smoke i see comming from something that never smoked before the turbo.

Any thoughts idea's.. Other then the smoke/idle my car seems to run fine, I am kinda scared to beat on it to make sure the power is still there.

TIA

first off i hope those arent bosch plugs. if they are, loose them and get some v-power ngk's.

second, byproducts of combustion are hydrogen and oxygen. they make water. if you were running fat at one time, there may be some carbon built up in your exhaust. good combustion sometimes will cause water to come out of your tailpipe emmissions. this outgoing water sometimes grabs the carbon and takes it out the tail pipe. dont worry about it.

From everything that Ive read and seen smoke from the valvecover breather isnt such a good thing. Does it drive/ run ok? Your rings might be gone, or even worse you could have a cracked sleeve... My car wont idle under more then 10in of vac. right now eathier, cause the rings are pretty much gone.... Do a compression test and find out... Whats the setup?

Good luck

Blaze

Yeah those are the bosch plugs had to buy those since they were out of the NGK's but only have 500 miles on them.

Whew thank you tho for your comment. Kinda gives me a little peace of mind.

Now my last thing is will this always smoke from the crank case breather/filter? its white smoke. Normal?

i didnt see anything about the smoke from the breather, but at that point you do need a compression test, and if thats inconclusive, or low, you need a cylinder leakage test.

is that oil? i had a problem with my turbo setup cause i had too much crankcase pressure, and it wouldnt let the turbo drain. since ur running an open breather, check to make sure ur drain is ok.

From the looks of the pictures your plugs dont look like there running rich at all. I cant really see all that clear though.

Id worry about the smoke coming out of the valve cover breather.

Post up the compression Rest Results and go from there

I know alot of people who are reading this is probably thinking ringlandings are toast so I'll be the first to say it. Get a compression test.

The plugs looks ok but 14 psi with stock black box is definitly not a good idea.

After inspecting that first picture of your plug it looks alittle greenish. Another bad sign. You might have a blown head gasket or warped head. Coolant leaking in the combustion chamber.

Check your coolant level make shure the coolant level stays the same and no oil in it also.

I hope this hellps.

Well temp levels are are A OK!. colant levels did not need to be toped off. I did post the other day about my return line. Looks like oil is seaping through the tubing or eating through it. my oil pressure gauge reads 75ish on load and about 25ish idle. Not sure what my return pressure is atm. maybe checking that today aswell.

Like i said my car drives fine right now but who's to say that well not get worse as the days pass here.

heading out to get it compression tested and looked at. i hope it just oil issue and no ringlands or anything like that. My wife is about ready to knife me if we have to drop another grand into my car

My car has had **** like that coming out the exhaust since i put on my test pipe and turbo setup ever since the very first startup...It doesnt do it like it did now after i got some miles on it with a very free flow exhaust i just figured it was blowing out all the old **** in there from the past 4 years of having the exhaust. Like i say doesnt do it anymore like it did on initial startup. I never thought anything of it and car runs great. Doesnt really anwswer your question but kinda can explain the black **** spewing out.

ive got that same carbon coming out my exhaust, except i have all brand new exhaust piping from manifold back, so there shouldn't be any large amounts of carbon build up. I did pour in that fluid to pass emissions into my tank, its suppose to remove all the carbon from the internals. Ive been trying to find out whats causing this for the longest time.

Could be that your timing is off with the valves and a combo of running rich, ive seen this happen before with my brother's 92 Talon TSI. He would rev it up and it would blow alot of that crap out. Also a friend's TSI had bad rings and also did that....
