Plus there are no tracks in San Diego, at least none that you dont have to off-road your car to get to.
Ahhhh...good old Carlsbad....

Abaz, you are very lucky to have a junkyard that sells turbos for $20. Out here in San diego a turbo that you remove from the car yourself is about $100. And finding a starion Intercooler at the junkyard is next to impossible, I believe the junkyard owners and employees are taking them off before the cars even hit the lots. I was just looking at your webpage, your $500 turbo kit doesnt include any type of fuel system upgrade. no fmu, no fuel pump. Also, what oil lines were you using that were $15? And what material is your charge piping made out of for $10? It's good that you are making this stuff yourself and being creative but I dont think suggesting $500 turbo kits with no fuel system upgrades to people is a very good idea. If you are running 5-6psi on a stock D-series motor (intercooled) You hardly need any type of engine managment.. I have been running 2 custom turbo setups for the past 7 months on various cars without any type of engine managment. 1 a d16z6 and a d15b7. Civics (92-95) With the timing backed down a few degrees, and a high octane, colder plugs and our pleasent (northwest climate) a chance of detonation is very slim. With a A/F gauge installed we have found that under boost conditions the car runs in Stoichmetric level.

I do agree that going anything above 6psi with no management is crazy as hell. 6psi is right at the point of pre-detonation.

For fuel pumps? a Stock pump 88-91crx can flow 440cc injectors (@ 85% duty cycle) on 12psi before the pump starts to cut out... zdyne did a large study on this..
and I have also found it to be accurate. But then again, I do have some slight modifcations to my fuel lines that removed all the banjo bolt fittings in the system.

Turbochargers/Intercoolers.... I agree most turbos and intercoolers in our area are just tough to find, I guess I am just one of those lucky kinda guys when it comes to this stuff. I have a few places I check for these Items and I have been very lucky. I dont know about CALI, but in WA we have Pick-a-part/pull-a-part style junkyards which means you take the parts off yourself and parts are very cheap. Hell you can buy a longblock for 100 bucks. Starion/Conquest's are somewhat rare cars to begin with, but I found 2 at our local yards, both with FMIC.. I paid 32 bucks for the cooler and all the charge pipes. Starion charge pipes are black 2' rubber braided lines, Picked up a few DSM charge pipes too, with a BOV for around 20 bucks, cut the pipes up the way I wanted and that is how I did it so cheap.

For a oil feed line? this one is easy, a High pressure line from napa 300psi (high temp) 4 bucks a foot. 1/8 brass NPT extension with a 3 way splitter and a 1/4 barb extension.. all brass peices cost about 5 bucks all together. For oil return, drop the pan down and braze in a steel fitting (not brass, that **** melts to easy)

a 500 buck turbokit can easily be done man, I just got done working on one last night that is going to be very cheap also.. using a 300zx turbo and HF manifold setup.

For fuel managment, I do agree with you... its something you dont want to go cheap with... I didnt spend 1200 bucks on a Zdyne GOLD SECU for nothing

Last night we just threw this setup together with some extra stuff around the shop.. I had a extra turbo I bought for 50 bucks (1g 300zx)

Downpipe for less then 15 bucks.. just a couple hours to make.. actually it cost more my sock caught on fire from welding.

I just want people to know that this is an option, that you dont have to spend thousands on pre-fab kits.. I pay money to host http://www.homemadeturbo.com to help others on a non-profit site.. and spend atleast an hour a day replying to emails.

Btw, 50 bucks for a manifold? did you make that yourself? or get a smoking deal on that one?

That is what make's B-series kits just a bitch to make for cheap.. unless you can make your own manifold, you have to buy a stupid prefab manifold rangeing from 225-500 bucks..

AbaZ does get some good *** prices on stuff, but don't forget that he works as a mechanic and some of the stuff was leftovers lying around the shop. I'll also bet that he spends a load of time at the junkyard too, where bargains can be had if you're lucky. A mechanic friend got me a completely rebuilt 4G63 block for free from his shop and got 4 3000gt rims for his GSX for $50 at a junkyard. I will say that I have priced custom/junkyard turbo kits out myself and gotten $600-800 for D-Series and $1000-1200 for B's. Of course, the more new parts you buy add up real fast in the end. Peace.

the $50 manifold was made from 90 degree 1/8 inch thick steel elbows that were purchased for $3.50 a piece. I think I used 6 or 7 of them. Plus I have to give my friend about $20 to sneak into work at night and cut me some flanges. You know, you obviously can cut and weld and make piping if you made your own downpipe, why dont you make steel intercooler piping? I guess a $500 kit is feasible but I tend to use a stainless braided oil feed line as opposed to a rubber line with hose clamps. And I usually use external wastegates as opposed to the internal wastegate, and I always use an FMU and fuel pump as opposed to nothing. You are right about the stock pump and it's flow capabilities but when it comes to pressure, like in an FMU setup, you need an inline. After looking at your site it makes me want to purchase a geo metro or something and slap a turbo kit on that bitch for $300. But in my Integra, I just cant make it look hobo..... cant.
