Default DIY Knock Detection

I've seen a few articles floating around about how to make a knock sensor with a microphone, amplifier, and some headphones.. but never heard of the success with this.. or an exact how-to.. anyone ever try this?

from the articles i've read you can actually hear the knock before any electronics can detect it.. but i don't know how true that is.

I have got the impression that the human ear/brain is really the best signal processer to date. this site is kinda interesting;http://pw1.netcom.com/~bsundah...s.htm

I have a tool called the chassis ear that has a bunch of clip on mics a switch-amplifier box and a some headphones. never tried it for knock, but I'm sure it could be an advantage to have multiple inputs to toggle through.

Have your buddy hold a nice craftsman screw driver on the valve cover as you do a pull on the dyno.

Never fails to get rid of a freind!

Oh wait...
