Default DIY el cheapo block filling 4 boost

i found this; http://www.splitimageracing.com/news.php?extend.10 and it looks interesting, I might do it. Anyone ever done this? Does it really work? Should I just get a block guard? (NOOB statement) I've heard that block guards will distord ur block or something like that. What do u guys think i should do?
