Default diy catch can ?

i made a catch can out of some alum tubing and welded ends on it, my question is do you need anything inside it or just empty? also how should i hook it up? i see so many diffrent ways , i will not do drain back, and i can put as many ports on it as i need, i have the nipples for the back of the block so i guess i just want to hook this up the best way and take out the black box. any help would be great , thanks
