Discuss: Using an Aisin amr500 supercharger on a D15B7. Thoughts?
ive been looking for a cost effective way to supercharge a small displacement motor like a d15. Curious as to if anyone has used one of these small roots types blowers on a similar engine. Also interested in a sc12 or sc14 blower and feedback although I would prefer the smaller blower due to cost, weight and small size. I have a friend with an awd b series ef hatch that's running a twin charged setup using a sc14 and a cast iron top mount. His car makes over 300ftlbs by 3600rpms out of a 1.8l 87.2mm stroke motor.

Well if its 0.5 liter and you run it at 2.5 to 3:1 ratio with a 5.800 - 6000 rpm rev limit on the engine it will run sweet even with only one instaled.

This is interesting these are pretty cheap and would probably work great but how would you mount it and where? Im sure a bracket would have to be fabricated.

I actually picked up a d15b6 bottom end that has some sort of fabricated steel mount that looks like it would work almost perfect for one mounted where the ac compressor normally goes. Unfortunately that bottom end will need the pistons changed out as they only have 2 valve reliefs not 4. I also got a set of p29's for the same motor I just wanted to brain storm on possible setups. I really don't think the mounting would be an issue. I've heard the supercharger will support 150hp but haven't heard any instances of Honda people using them besides a couple of Insight guys that bought them and never went through with the build due to lack of tune ability for the inline 3 the insights came with.

Ill do some calculations tommorow for this setup.
My knowledge so far is that is that this supercharger work good on most things installed
like motorcycles small engines even boats.
That and also the smaller 250(?) Version of it.
We can also find a small VW supercharger or even a BMW one.
There are many option on the smaller sized SCs.

Any update on this? I want to try fabricating a bracket that would mount this on a D series AC location I bet using a AC tensioner would work too like on my B series Procharger setup..

I've done a bunch of SC14 setups on B-series and more recently my D16 mini-me.
The SC14 is perfect as it is able to provide more than enough boost at all RPM ranges on 1600cc setups and can be boost controlled via the factory chipped OBD1 and Neptune software.
Here are a couple of write ups I did years ago and a few pics of a more recent bracket setup.
Experience tells me that the amr500 would be too small ... considering the sc14 starts running out of puff at 7.5k on a b20/vtec with ITR cams.
I designed the kit pictured using Solidworks, then 3D printed the molds and core for eventually casting the parts in aluminium using sand molds.

On the stock ecu untouched D16 non-vtec it made 75kw. This was the base test.
On the tuned SC14 D16 non-vtec it made 111kw at 9psi. A 48% increase over stock.
On the tuned D16 with vtec head it made 80kw. This was the base test.
On the SC14 D16 with vtec head it made 120kw at 9psi. A 50% increase over stock.
Stock exhaust is definitely a restriction, and i'm looking forward to testing with a 2.5" exhaust over the stock piddly 1.75".
All tests were done on a Mustang dyno which is notorious for heartbreaking numbers, hence my reference to the stock base run. As a comparison, this dyno read 105wkw on a bone stock b18cr with stock ecu, and 115kw after a tune with Neptune :-/
The figures only show the top end values, which skip the whole purpose of the SC for me which is a huge increase in low and mid-range torque. This thing ate B18cR's, DC5's and whole host of others from a stand still and rolling starts ... quick off the mark and beautiful around corners. Boost is controlled via a solinoid and uses boost by gear / RPM and throttle position to delivery seemless control tuned via Neptune. .... until I crashed it :facepalm

The brackets and manifolds pictured were custom designed and made by me. You could fabricate anything you like for the bracket, all it does is mount the SC14 to the A/C bracket. I may have an old bracket kit lying around, but it will need to be welded up.
You could also cut and weld the original manifolds to suit.

Wow that setup looks awesome man. I think this may be the down the road project for my d series insight. You did a great job on the fab work for that setup.

just an update, I came upon an aisin Amr500 supercharger and decided to put it on my 2.2l s10, with it driven 2.7-1 speed it built between 4lbs and about 2lbs at peak ve, I put a smaller pulley on it and was able to get 4-6lbs out of it but the blower got ridiculously hot Like 250-300 degrees after a 10 min drive when it was about 40 degrees out. I believe it made somewhere Around 120-130whp from the feel of it which is a big improvement over the stock 2.2l 8v pushrod motor they usually make around 95whp with bolt ons at the tire. I don’t think the charger would work for most Honda’s, it simply can’t flow enough air to be of use even on a d series. A sc12 or sc14 would be a much better choice.
