Default Differences between bottom end's: b18c5, b18c, b18c1

ok, i know the compression differences and all that but im looking to know what other differences there are between the bottom ends of a

b18c: JDM TYPE R
b18c5: USDM TYPE R
b18c1: GSR

...just want to know the differences between the blocks because im going to be having a bottom end built up soon for boost. Currently i own a 99 jdm itr motor. However i was planning on buying a core to have built so i can continue to drive my car during the build process "downtime", however its virtually impossible to find a type R bottom end, and when i do find 1 its expensive as hell for just a core/crank. Therefore if there isnt a difference in the gsr bottom and the type r bottom besides the obvious overall compression because of pistons ect then it would be cheaper to just buy a gsr bottom/crank and have it built for boost. Then swap it in+turbo kit+ my ITR head, and sell my na itr bottom end once everything is said and done sense i wouldnt have any use for it anymore.

Also, any-1 know how much a JDM 99 ITR bottom end would sell for? Has less then 20k miles, new water pump/timing belt, 11:1 oem, etc. Just looking for a guestimate figure so i know how much i can make back after going the core/build route.

btW: ive searched and didnt find what i was looking for

If your motor is going to get built anyways, then how about selling your ITR motor and getting a B18C1 block in need of a rebuild? The money you get from selling the ITR motor can be used to buy your new GSR block and building it up.

from what i understand.

the itr crank is a bit beefier, than a gsr crank.
the itr rods are "supposedly" better.
itr has higher compression.
itr has lighter flywheel.

everything else is pretty much the same.

and thats about it.

thats what i was saying.....

if there were no major differences between the b18c/c5 and the b18c1 bottom end it would be easier and cheaper to just buy a gsr bottom end to send off and have built and then just sell my itr bottom once i get the built gsr back from the machine shop.....then id just use my itr tranny and itr head

yup, that's what I would do. Or you could take it one step further and get a first gen B16 block and head and build the crap out of it and convert to OBD 1. A 1G B16 block can be found for $200-$400. It probably wont be legal since I'm guessing your car is fairly new. But I have seen somebody sell their motor out of their ITR and they built up a 1G B16.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I allways thought the 1G B16's have shorter deck height than the B18c's.

your right...

the only "b16" that has the same deck hight as the b18c/c1/c5 is the b16b(ctr engine)

An ITR crank is 1 pound lighter then a gsr or ls crank also ...

Itr Cams and loss-motion assembly is better too.

Some ITR heads are hand mild ported and polished at honda.

ITR motor uses a b16 head and not a gsr. so the cylinder head cc's are different .

all the B18's deck height are the same, B18C, B18C1, B18C5, B18A are all the same. The rod length is different on B18A than all the B18C, therefore crank is different as well.

ITR and GS-R crank are all the same. They're all beefy...I have run them both.

ITR uses spilt bearing system, GS-R doesn't from the factory, but all my GS-R motors are split bearing system, I like building them that way.

The 5 in B18C5 does not worth a penny more than B18C1, IMO

thanks for all the info guys

ive decided to try and pick up a GSR bare bottom end "trying to buy a core locally", im gonna use my 99 jdm itr head, cams, tranny ect and send the GSR bottom end to earl lasky for the build-up. Then ill just sell the itr bottom end once my boosted bottom comes back from earl.
