Difference an exhaust would make on 00 Si w/ GReddy kit, AEM EMS
I've got a 00 Si with the GReddy turbo kit, Spearco Intercooler, and AEM EMS. Right now the stock exhaust is on there. I'm getting my car tuned pretty soon (tuner is working on a preliminary fuel map), and I was considering getting an exhaust made. Here's what I was thinking: 2.5" cat-back mandrel-bent piping (welded pipes from JC Whitney), some kind of 2.5" resonator, and a Spintech Sportsman Street XL (3331XL part number) muffler. And I'd weld on a 2.5 or 3" angle-cut piece of piping on the end to make it look pretty.
How much do you think that exhaust would help? It wouldn't be too expensive... about $100 for the muffler, the piping would be about $70 or so, maybe a little less (aluminized steel, I'd paint it high-temp anti-rust paint inside and out), and then whatever a resonator costs. I want to add the resonator because I'm trying to keep sound down to a low roar; I don't want any buzzing sound at all. Just deep and mellow.
Also, anyone know of any good resonators or where to get them? Thanks guys.
*EDIT* The car is going to be tuned for 8 psi or so via a Joe P Manual Boost Controller. About what kind of HP difference should the exhaust make?

I would also think about upgrading the downpipe to 2.5" and also a 2.5" high flow Cat with the exhaust also.
I also have a greddy kit on my si with a 2.5 downpipe into 2.5 test pipe then into a 3" exhaust pipe to the muffler help spool faster and exhaust helps flows a lot . I run 14 psi so the 2.5 well work nice for 8psi.

with 8psi i'm sure you're gonna see 10-15whp from removing that restrictive exhaust.

Civic Power:
Where did you get your 2.5" downpipe? I might want to get one too. That would be ideal.
What kind of muffler are you using as well? How does it sound?

3" would be ideal on externally wastegated turbos, but I wouldnt on the 18G. IM Tony from Jotech he made me a 2.5" DP when I had my GReddy kit or call them at 972-278-9744

Hey, thanks for the tip. I'll give them a call on Monday or Tuesday. How much did they charge? I'm on a pretty limited budget here, and I would like to keep costs down as far as possible.

I found a guy through the search function here that says he makes 2.5" dp's for the Greddy kit... at least he used to.I have a pm out to him. His name is TurboDC4, but looking back now, it seems that he's banned. Does this mean he ain't gettin my pm? Oh well. I'll see about someone else doing it.
I might just take it off on Tuesday and take it down to my muffler shop and see what they could do. Maybe. I might just say f-it and leave the stocker one on there.

Civic Power: That's cool, I live just down the street. Just got finished going to El Co, as a matter of fact. I'll check them out. How much did they charge for the downpipe? I might just weld up my own exhaust and have them make me the dp.

DUDE!!!! you from torrance and you never heard of ES motorsports???
they make the ES oval series!!
es do custom set up with different material and size just about everythign you want.
If i were you i would have them do the downpipe and order a 2.5 test pipe from kteller8 as well as cat back piping and muffler(2.5inch).
you prolly dont need resonator, it's not going to be anymore louder anyway.
it spool up 50 times faster when i throw out my pos and get a 2.5catback(well, 2.5inch cat-less cat back) exhaust with a Apexi rs.
if you on a tight budget kteller8/mike is your best friend...lol
very nice guy and he will take care of you good

Yeah, I've heard of them, I used to go to their shop back when they were on Sepulveda next to the YMCA.
About kteller8, should I just pm him on here and see what prices he quotes me for either a test pipe or a high-flow cat?
What I want the resonator for is to reduce the buzzy sound of most exhausts even further. I know I probably won't need it, but at about $20 for a 24" or so resonator, that's not too bad. And if it's aluminized steel, I can weld it in myself. In fact, I'm gonna spend all tomorrow practicing my welding so I can start ordering the piping and getting it together slowly.
