Default Did anyone try this idea?

well i always had thoughts of doing a catch can setup on my valve cover without drilling/welding my valve cover.....did anyone try using their oil cap as a catchcan source?

does this pic atleast ring a bell?

is it worth trying?

Now the question is, will that clear the hood? lol. I know in my DA, the valve cover is already like 1/2" away from the hood. at the largest gaps

None of those parts are related to the OP's product inquiry.

If its baffled it "should" work. What would you use for vacuum source? A tube in the exhaust? (i forget who's principle it is at the time)

This seems like it an easier and possibly cheaper way of doing it

What the??

what's up with those two guys up top? You guys couldnt come up with an opinion until you heard what everyone else had to say?
then when somebody came up with an actual brand name product and you saw a couple of thumbs go up your all for it?
Nice.

You should have said..." i cant decide if this is cool or not, please decide for me."

so you just hook a line from the oil cap to the catch can? has anyone ever used it? it doesn't matter as long as the gases get out right?

I've heard some people having hood clearence issues with the z10 one,but I haven't heard anything about the vibrant setups.

If you really wanted to do one...

step one go to junk yard
step two get free oil cap
step three buy 2-3 dollar 3/8-1/2 inch elbow
step four drill and tap junkyard oil cap
step five put elbow on cap
step six put on a hose.

If it doesn't work out put your old cap back on.You spent at most 4-5 dollars to make it, if that, instead of 65-80.

Only difference is you would have to undo the hose when you change the oil,1-2 min inconvenience.

well this setup is a cool idea thats why i asked if its possible anf from the link Tony provided that cap is perfect! some poeple cant spend timing removing the valve cover and doing the weld and even the funds to get lines/fittings/can/filter

with this cap setup i belive someone could try fitting a direct filter on that cap as quick try....did any try oping the cap while the engine idles there allot of oil spalsh at that area so i belive using baffled catchcan is essential!

Unless there is some sort of baffle on the cap, then it will drain all your oil in to time. The reason regular valve cover vents work is because they are behind a baffle. This has been covered before.

most poeple who run ramhorn manifolds cant run their fittings at the front and put it at the back WHERE its nots baffled! you do know its baffled at one area right?

If you ever look at the inside of your valve cover you will see what looks like a metal plate in it. Thats a baffle to keep excess oil from going past whatevers on the other side of the baffle like the oem breather line. Some oil pans are also like that to prevent windage power losses.

For the valve cover issue some guys actually add a baffle to the valve cover if there's none where they added fittings.Alot don't and it pushes oil like mentioned.

I think im gonna try my own idea.If I don't like It im out 0 dollars since im sure I can find all the stuff I need laying around.

you guys cant expect someone to know all aspects of automotive performance. i have friends that can do a motor swap in 3 hours including smoke breakes, but they dont know a damn thing about a catch can or final drives, would you laugh at them too?

and then theres people like me, i got a ton of knowledge/experience but i still work slow as HELL. everybodies got different strengths.
