dfi or hondata?
originally i was planning on running hondata but recently my dad installed a vortech supercharger on a expedition and this guy installs dfi and tunes it at his shop near by. after talking to him and watching him tune his straight 6 cylinder f-150 with 14 psi daily, it sounds like it has all options hondata has and more. and i dont need to get a obd1 ecu or even a map sensor with the dfi. so locally i have a hondata tuner and a dfi tuner. im having a hard time figuring out which one to go with. any help?

Okay here is the break down.
DFI
- You will have to rewire the motor because you have use their wiring harness for the ecu. You can graph the two harness together but again, that's extra work.
- This is mainly a strip ecu application.
- knock sensor is extra
- IACV is extra
- If you don't know how to do it, you wont have AC in your car.
- Modification of the dizzie.
- Price is around $1,500.
Hondata
- No need to change wiring, Plug & Play
- Uses all stock sensors (eg. knock, iacv etc..)
- Everythign works like stock
- Price starts at $425

But with DFI you can have a laptop in the passenger seat and look all cool!!!!!!
If your car is a mild street car (which it sounds like it is) go with hondata, you'll be much happier with it. I'm running sequential FAST in my car, and I love it, it works great and makes a ton of power but it would be way overkill for a honda or a mild street car, imo. Just a ton of features that you really don't need.

thats very good info. one more question, what do you mean the dfi is more for the strip? and hondata is more for street? because of the options or the ease of tuning? thanks guys

thats expensive, it thought it was like 900$ or so
unless you know the dynamics of building a map from scratch i would go with hondata either way. Im sure you could find a base map though.

Re: dfi or hondata? (tgh99si)
I have had DFI for a while and like a lot, it is totally tunable for the street, I guess from stories I have heard a lot of cars get tuned for WOT and therefore people say not streetable, gen 6 does have a couple issues about holding very short pulse width with some injectors, they can all be resolved however. GEN 7 is unbelieveable, wish I had the scratch to pick it up.

I say DFI boxes like fast, accel, motech, etc, etc, etc are for more strip orientated cars because they are usually a lot more expensive, and you're paying that money for features you really arn't going to use on a mild street car. It's not that you can't get your car to run beautifully with it, but it's overkill. Kinda like using a baseball bat to kill a fly, or like buying a 5000 dollar computer to use for word processing
