detonating after turbo UNinstall
PROBLEM FIXED: I'm a ******* idiot. One of my header bolts wasn't tight. Tighten it up and knocking sound went away. on me!! KISS!!!!!!!!!!!! All that panicing for nothing I feel so stupid now
I removed my turbo a week ago, but I just got the car finished up today.
I did solder my stock injectors back in and cut the wires off the greddy blue box and resolder the map sensor wire.
I started it, let it warm up. took it around the block, everything was fine.
So I park it. Go back out a few hours later. Start it, I get a weird knock noise when it starts, and when I rev it, it knocks too. Sounds like its detonating to me.
I checked the plugs, they look normal. One spark plug wire got a lilttle bit smashed by a nut, doesn't look bad at all.
No CEL's either. Motor is a b18c1. Shouldn't my knock sensor detect it detonation?
Anyone have an ideas?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you won't hear detonation like that. Sounds like you have a rod knock. You DID remember to put oil back in the motor after removing the turbo, right? Check your oil and possibly pull the oil pan and check the bearings...

Re: detonating after turbo UNinstall (tony1)
Yes I remember to fill it up with oil. Oil level is fine.
So you think I smoked my bearing. How could have this happened?
I was boosted for 20 miles.
After I put oil in the car, I let it fully warm up. And took it around the block came up and parked it. Everything sounded fine during that quick trip. Few hours later go back out and its making that noise.
Any other ideas?
Thanks for the response Tony.

It's real hard to say w/o hearing it, but from what you described, it's a spun rod bearing. Drain the oil into a clean pan and look at it in the sunlight. If the oil is metallic looking then drop the pan and check the bearings...

Re: detonating after turbo UNinstall (tony1)
I checked the oil.
My dad and I both agreed it wasn't metallic. There were some air bubbles though.
The motor idles fine too, no knocking. It knocks right at start up when stops. If I use part throttle and rev the motor It won't knock. But If I use a lot of throttle it will knock.
So my next step is to take out the oil pan and check the connecting rod bearing? And what exactly am I looking for? Thanks
