Del sol 850hp
hay guys i got a del sol with a d16y8 in it what is the best way i can push 850hp out of it you see i'm trying to beet this car that beet my dad and now his son drives it but ive estimate im going to need around 850hp to beet him i was thinking turbo and fuel injection with an exhaust but i cant find any good turbo kits or twin turbo kits any way thanks
would that be the turbo you recommend i was kinda looking for a kit because im a bit inexperienced other wise i wouldn't be on here lol but what should i all buy in a more exact state i get if you don't want to make a list but it would be appreciated
If you tell me that you actually have at least about $15K to spend on this car and a reputable shop to do all the work and tuning for you then I'll spoon feed you a build. If you're not ready to spend at least that much money, give up now.
As it stands you honestly have no idea at all what you're asking, and I suspect are unprepared for the amount of labor and cash that would be needed for an "850HP Del Sol".

OP, what is your budget and time line to get this Del Sol up and running ?
Chances are really good that one wouldn't even get the "Single Jingle" anywhere near 850 wheel HP regardless of much cash the OP spends... and if the plan is to convert to "B" or "K" series... $15K only gets you maybe HALF WAY there... if one does ALL of the work themselves.

But before you start, are you sure you really need 850HP? You can get a 10 second pass with 450-500 HP, so realize you’ll need to almost be constantly rebuilding a transmission for 850HP if you plan to use slicks for tires or actually be racing with 850HP.
That’s why I don’t want such a large amount of HP, because the transmission will have problems.
As for the D series, it could in theory handle it, but it would have a terrible power band with a huge turbo, and the transmissions will be a problem with anything over 600HP.
nah man i'm in for the long run on this **** if i can beet this guy you have no idea how much it would mean to me and especially my dad ill spend every penny in my bank account if i can beat this bitch also I've got a guy making a bunch of carbon fiber stuff for this thing and a custom turbo kit being made now so... any way I probably can switch to a k or b still tho which one would you suggest btw I've already spent more then 15k and i work at **** pick and save so don't say some **** about my parents being rich i just rely want this to happen and ill do ANYTHING to make it happen
They can't make the turbo kit before they know what engine you'll ultimately be using. The turbo manifold, downpipe and intercooler piping will be dependent on the engine.
I agree with Highschooler, I'd call 4Piston and have them take care of the whole engine assembly. For big turbo power, most people are still going the B series route.
You'll need a sleeved engine, O-Rings, L19 headstuds, high end forged internals, etc. Whatever 4Piston suggests for an 850hp target is what I would go with.
For the power goal it would be almost imperative to use at least E85 or water meth injection with 93 octane, assuming you're not just using flat out race fuel.
I also want to point out that JRCivic is entirely correct, it will cost much more than $15K to finish this build properly, especially if you outsource the work to these shops. They will get it done right, but it will be costly. Your stock suspension and wheels will also no longer cut it.
It may also be worth considering that if all you're interested in is winning a race, if it doesn't have to be in a Del Sol, there are plenty of other V8 platforms that would be a much simpler & cheaper task of making big power/fast drag passes with.

15k gets you a turbo charged stock internal k24. I have a local guy that just finished doing this in his Integra last month, he did all the work himself over the last year and a half. And it still cost him approx 15k for all the parts not including the car (chassis) itself. It won't make near 850hp but it will be quite fun.
This is a younger guy that didn't know me or anyone local to help guide him, used YouTube and YouTuber advice for what parts to pick. It came out solid and he used good parts. Probably could be done for less, but for a first time engine swap, that's what he ended up spending I am told.

What kind of race did this guy beat your dad in, and you plan to challenge him in? Autocross? 1/8 mile drag race? 1/4 mile drag race? Hill climb? Bonneville salt flats? Red light to red light on the street? Highway roll racing?
That race.

you guys. I'm trying to give this guy the benefit of the doubt that he knows not what he asks for.
