Decided to build the D16
Well all, tonite I decided I'm gonna go for the bottom end of the motor next. No... nothing catastrophic has happened YET. But I was back to boosting 8-9psi and I loved it. But I thought two things. Rods and pistons is more assurance, and... IMAGINE 12-14psi! muahahaha. Anyway I don't think I'm going to sleeve the block. Not 100% sure, but most likely not. Now, I haven't done much research on piston choices, but rods I'm pretty sure Eagles will be fine. I hear from a few that SRP pistons aren't a good choice for some reason or another. Wondering what pistons other D16 turbos are running, or a good recommendation. Right now I'm thinking Wiseco, CP, or JE's. I'm thinking 9:1 compression. Also, is there any other recommended work to be done while slapping in the rods n pistons? Also for anyone who would ask, I'm aiming for anything over 250whp for now which shouldn't be too hard, but I don't wanna AIM too high and be disappointed when I do the work.

Eagles and SRP's 9:1 are what I am considering I hear the SRPs are a good quiet piston.... I am going to shoot for 300whp@20psi with Race gas at the track Sorry can't really help

Something about the high silicone content in SRP's that makes them undesierable for high boost aplications.. can't remember off the top of my head.

I think you are making a good decision to build up the SOHC! I am going the same route as you, but will be sleeving my spare block in the next couple months.
I think you'd be fine with the SRP's, as long as you don't run HIGH boost.
What are you're goals for the car - horsepowerwise?
Goodluck!

I have a spare block, but it's BARE... no crank. and I dunno if i want to try to afford the extra $$$. I'm looking for about 250-300whp (max)

Re: Decided to build the D16 (CivicRyda2k)
i have srp 9:1's and the engine sounds god. havent got to boost on it yet but i have got over 1,000 miles on it.
I plan on boosting around 12psi srp's and LS rods. we'll see.

Re: Decided to build the D16 (turbo sol)
are most of you guys running stock bore pistons or oversized? also, does the block have to be notched for all aftermarket d-series rods? just tryna get an idea of how much machine shop work has to be done. if there's anyone with stock bore pistons and rods that dont have to be notched for, has anyone attempted to do the work themselves? what other basic parts (bearings, seals) should be replaced while building u the block? thanks

Re: Decided to build the D16 (CivicRyda2k)
i'm going to bulding up my d16z6 as soon as i can get this d15 dropped in...i'm in the same situation as you (looking for rods/pistons)...now you guys know about turbopanda's toyota pistons with b16 rods...i know the block needs to be notched, but do LS rods fit in the d16? was it the ls or the old d16 integ motor? couldnt you use those and mate it to the toyota piston and not have to worry about notching? i was just thinking about it because i wasnt sure...anyone know
p.s. you should make sure to keep a log and keep us updated on how the progress is...good luck

Check out this link has some decent info about the varying brands of pistons

Re: Decided to build the D16 (Pengo)
I'm installing a set of Eagle rods and SRP 10.5:1 on my D16 right now. The block does have to be notched. There is some info on how to do it here. http://www.theoldone.com/artic..._tips/
It looks fairly easy and I will be doing it on Wednesday.

I'm building a monster D16 motor. My goal is 500wheel power. that's 600 crank power. I'm goign to be running crower rods and Endyn roller wave pistons. I got the corwers for stupid cheep, but if I had not gotten them for so cheap, I would have gone with eagle rods.
Check them out. http://www.theldone.com
If you use their pistons and eagle rods along with a hondata ecu and 440-550 inhjectors, you'll be able to run 16-17 lbs of boost on that thing on pump fuel on the stock block w/o issues. Just needs to be properly tunned. that's about 290-320 wheel power. Give or take weather and tunner. That sound like fun?

"t3/t04e 46 trim"
That's way too small. the exhaust should be a .48 and the compressor shoudl be a .60 with a .54 up to a .60. that will easly be able to grow with your car as you do more work. It is capable of producing 400-500 wheel power. make sure you get an oil and water cooled unit with a 360* bearing.

That turbo is a .48ar with a 46trim compressor. Its good for around 350hp. Its a really nice SOHC turbo. How do i know? That was my old turbo i sold it to marc. It will really nice for his goal of 300whp.

I agree..this is a good idea...and a *REALLY* good idea if you are going to use a block guard..i wouldnt use a block guard unless i was going to bore/hone the block as after you install one it can push the cyl out of alignment (which will cause more problems then not having one installed in the first place).

Re: (liam821)
ok hows this sound:
CP .020 over 9:1 pistons
Eagle Rods
Golden Eagle Blockgaurd
The head I'm thinking to leave stock, not 100% sure but ill see. will have it resurfaced obviously.
