Re: Darton or Golden Eagle or AEBS sleeves? (Boostage)
I would like to know what seperates the manufactures iron as well. There are tons of companies that advertise ductile iron sleeve inserts what makes one better than the other. I understand the cheaper foundry are producing lower quality but overall what is the biggest differences that you guys have noticed?
isnt ductile iron per the chemistry forumla is Fe-C-Si alloy
one of the benefits from my understanding of chemistry expermiments is the lack of heat treating there by makign it into usable forms.
the other issue from my reading is the stds which is given to ductile iron
first number is minimum tensile strenght per square inch, second is minimum yield and the last is elongation during tensile test percetange.
Grade 60-40-18
Grade 65-45-12
Grade 80-55-06
Grade 100-70-03
Grade 120-90-02

The heat treating of the iron determines a lot of its characteristics. When its cooling, different microstructures can be formed with different properties depending on temperature cooling curves. My guess among the sleeve companies would be that some have much tighter control over the cooling due to more sophisticated equipment and better quality control.

i figured taht much . its not difficult to work with this specific iron

If that were the case there'd be SSAC sleeve kits on eBay already.

Within a certain spec.ed material there are tolerances on percentages of the elements included in that specific material. If you wanting to create a desired property within that spec. , you can raise or lower the content of each element and still call it "Ductile Iron". The control of the entire process also adds to elimenating impurities or atmosphere(during heat treat) that cause an undesired affect. All of which will cost more. There was more covered on this here; https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1344673
