D16Y8 Build questions
Hey guys. I had to yank the motor out of my 2000 Civic ex due to the crank pulley wobbling around and trashing the snout of the crank and the keyway. I have to basically swap cranks because the keyway is trashed on the crank.
Anyhow, ive been looking around and searching to see if there is anything i can possibly do to make the oiling system better as i have a turbo kit going on and im looking to push about 200whp with stock crank/rods/pistons. Keep
I understand the y8 motor isnt that great but im mainly looking to improve the oiling system so that i wont spin bearings as i keep hearing its pretty common on Y8 motors. I havnt had an oil pressure gauge on my car so i cant really say ive seen low oil pressure and i havnt had any bearing issues. im trying to prevent having issues once i throw a turbo on as it'll obviously put more stress on everything.
Ive seen recommendations for swapping a z6 pump to the car but i lose my dipstick tube... Also id need to machine the pump for the crank sensor (crank variation sensor?!?!). or just wire it so that the crank sensor signal is tied into the same line to trick the obd2 ecu?
Ive got a good spare stock un-cut y8 crank, what brand bearings should i go with? Are there some that have better wider oiling grooves?
Would i just be better off using a z6 crank and oil pump?
Anyhow guys, if you have messed with z6s and y8s please chime in and add your input. Id like to make a stock build a bit more reliable on 10psi or less.

Keep the stock oil pump. You swap the crank out and you get the improved oiling capabilities. The Y-series has 1 oiling passage compared to the 2 on the Z.
This has been covered several times this month, good to see more single cam set ups. But it's pretty common knowledge these days.

Sorry im not much of a regular on here. I did search before hand
The oiling holes in the journals aren't made to put out pressure, they're made to keep oil on the bearings to prevent a spun bearing. The A6/Z6 cranks just do it better than the Y7/Y8 cranks. You don't need to swap out the oil pump, just the crank.
So among the z6 crank swap, what bearings? oem z6 rods/mains? Are there any specific brands to stay away from?
The pump keeps up fine. It's just there isn't enough holes to let the oil out. For whatever reason Honda had a different design on the Y7/Y8. You'll be completely fine with the Y8 pump on a Z6 crank.
I'd say OEM is probably good. But someone else with more experience will chime in. Stay away from generics (eBay brand stuff) is all I can say. I wouldn't trust anything 'cheap' in nature.
