D16 turbo or SI

D16 turbo or SI
I am in a bit of a bind.....I don't know what set up I want to go with. I either want to go w/ a D16 (EX) motor and turbo it rite away or very soon or go w/ an B16A2 (SI) and stay N/A for a year or so then turbo.
My question is what do you guys think I should do? I mean gas prices are gonig to get high this summer and I won't be as as fast w/ an SI. But w/ an EX I could use regular or midgrade gas, & run about 7-10 psi (max) and still be pretty quick. No matter what, I am goin to get a '99 or '00 civic. Another problem is that I would have a higher premium on insurance and have to pay off a loan for about a year or so. With an EX, I can afford one w/ no loan and prolly still have money for a turbo. But people tell me I should get a B-searies motor and just wait. What should I do?!........It is also gonna be a daily driver.....Thanks

you will not be able to run mid grade gas at 7 psi on anything. trust me. i have a d16y8, you want to run premium on any boosted engine.

Re: D16 turbo or SI (rjardy)
Depends how quick you want to go you can hit very high 12s to low 13s on a stock sohc engine.. The B16 swap will cost as much as it will cost to turbo your sohc, with boost you will have that much more power it is funny. Forget a turbo if worried about fuel economy.....

yeah i agree no stock b16 will hang with boosted d-series...for the b16 and turbo...i can be d15b vtec (jdm which i have) built being more reliable and have money left over for a standalone...or in my case afc-hack very shortly....if u want 13's its not that hard...but to me u need to do more homeowrk...d series have alot of potential for the price tag...if high 13's is ur goal d16 turbo will get u there if ur a good driver and not buy BS parts like nozzle lights and other random stuff...keep ur head straight along with ur driving and u'll be in the 13 sec club...good luck!

I know how much potential d-series motors have, I am just confused on what to do and if I want to get a turbo, what size and set-up to go with.

Well damn man, that't not saying much. I thought that JRSC SOHC's were slower than NA SOHC's anyway
Turbos...well, maybe you were beating the Greddy guys

Re: D16 turbo or SI (SiRkid)
I'll tell you (this is going to sound hot headed) but regardless of the fact I never went to the track or street races, I did race quite a few cars when I had the turbo SOHC and never lost.
I beat many V8 Mustangs, a V8 Firebird (with 5 people in it but hey he started it), a nitrous Focus, and a whole slew of really riced out cars , mostly Civics and Eclipses.
I think the last time I raced was on the highway with a 99 or 00 Si and a Protege turbo (new funky car...hadn't seen one before this) and I beat them both, but they both gave me a better run than most Mustangs.
One thing that I always remember though is racing a really nice hatch, extacly like mine except he had big rims with a GSR swap. If I remember right he had the classic i/h/e. He started it, pulled pretty good, but I threw it down into 2nd and smoked his *** hard.
You just gotta have the right turbo on your SOHC and you will easily destroy N/A B series cars...maybe unless it's a CRX Racing that GSR hatch was great for giving me an idea of how I was doing power wise, since it's the same exact car and not a heavier Integra or something like that.

Eating Mustangs is especially fun since I was once a Pony enthusiast. I still love them, but I really dig having a turbo four, plus I love my hatchback.

Forget a turbo if worried about fuel economy.....
My only guess on the better fuel milage was i didnt have my foot in the floor as much as the car was soo much faster.
All you turbo honda people with FMU's are the ones that get crappy gas milage..get a real fuel system and you will find your fuel milage will change little with a turbo.

Re: D16 turbo or SI (SOHC_power)
with turbo, you can just turn up the boost when you like or if you need, and get more hp on the fly. to someone, turbo is always soemthing to talk about
