I have a built d16 with a h1c holset turbo... I have a sandwich plate with a 3an line running to the turbo with a reducer from 4an to the 3an feed line...drain line is 10an... Drove the car around a bit, got into boost a couple times and bam don't hear turbo whistle anymore... Is my feed line to small...? Is it to much pressure? The turbo did not have any play at all when it was installed... Now it has side to side play and the compressor wheel is banged up... I know I will have to get it rebuilt or replace it, but I just wanna make sure that I do not have a problem with the oil feed or drain... I do not believe the feed or drain are obstructed...

I have a -4AN line with the 12mm x 1.5 pitch into the turbo feed side of the bearing housing. I think that 3AN line is the problem.

yes I have the same fitting on the turbo... I had a precision turbo on it before and it went... but you know what you hear about precision... but back to that... I wonder if the sandwich plate has any play in this... but I could be wrong maybe it was the end of the precisions life... also where can I get replacement parts at a decent price...? would need a rebuild kit and the compressor wheel is junk...

Is oil getting to the turbo from the sandwich?

My h1c I run -4 with a .60 restrictor fitting. -10 drain. Is your drain hose kinked? I would pull drain line and see how much oil drains out. Also what size e haust housing u running? Gonna do a single soon also?

Holsets don't need a restrictor. They run happy with 4an feed lines. Remember they were designed to have a 500, 000 mile service life on diesel engines, the bearing systems are beefy compared to garrett units, I've even seen cartridges run dry and not have issues

Are you sure your feedline isn't clogged? When the precision failed it could have left bearing particulates in the oil.... which would easily clog a feedline

oil is coming from the feed line... im running just a stock wh1c...

I have seen oil come out of it before but anything is possible... maybe I should just go with a 4an feed...then I know for sure its clean and clear...

Also forgot to add... The guy who put together my bottom end I don't think he installed my rings right... At idle I have crank add pressure... Would that cause the oil from the drain line to get pushed back/stop it from returning to the oil pan...? My return fitting is above the oil level in the oil pan...

No I haven't... But I don't think there is a boost leak... It runs good under boost... By the way what would a boost leak have anything to do with extreme blow by... ? Like I said at idle you can feel pressure coming out of the catch can...

here is the conclusion... talked to my regular machinist.. said the ring gaps where to tight meaning they went bad... so all the blow by came from that which caused the turbo not to drain...
