Default d15z1/z6 head?

buddy of mine decided to put a z6 head on his d15z1(economy engine)...
well he was also running 5lbs on a wrx turbo stock internals , and fuel system.
ran fine i put some z6 injectors on and a bigger fuel rail on and it helped a little , it has never hit fuel cut since and ran fine and would actually be somewhat quick if it werent for the long *** geared tranny.

he put the z6 head on without me the other night and i know vtec wont work without he right ecu, cause his is the (economy vtec) which engages at like 2500 rpm to save gas or something.

the problem is he called me without telling me he did the head swap and said his car was running weird.

i went over to take a look and it would start and idle fine but but when you gave it gas it revved VERY slow, and cut out, i had the tap the gas very fast to keep it from dying.
i also noticed air was coming out of the bov, and the turbo had a LOT of compressor surge.
it was also over heating , but i have not started looking into that yet.

which led me to think he did not adjust the valves and they were not opening far enough.

so that is first on my list to do tomorrow , is adjust the valves and double check timing, and change ecu, and figure out over heating problem.

any suggestions on anything else.

hell i dont even know if the z1 and z6 will go together but he did it.
now i gotta go fix the **** ups.....

any other suggestions

find a compression calculator on the internet you will see that your compression with that head and blcok is low 8's the z1 blcok is the one block that you cant use for doing a mini-me.

and is this car tuned?

did he just re-use the headgasket?

he used a new headgasket.

i fixed most of it tonight.
i put a p75 ecu in it i know its not the right one but it works way better than the p08 i think was in it.

the timing was 1 tooth off and i adjusted the valves.
it runs strong now, rich but very strong.
