Default D15 Turbo questions...?

Hi...

I'm building up a Euro D15b2 engine with sohc vtec head and t3/t4 turbo. I want to know, if somebody has experiences with a project like mine ?

Are ther better roads and pistons avaible for the d15 engine ?

I'm not trying to build up a "boost-beast", just for fun with a little more than 150hp - daily driven car

Greetings Florian

No impressions or tips...

We've had several customers go the D15 route over the years. PM me if you have questions.

A t3t4 hybrid will be overkill esp if your only shooting for about 150hp...a stait t3 will suit you better, something like the size of a saab t-3 (.48/ .42)

Hi...

I've a "small" Garrett T3/T4e with 57 trim compressor wheel and 48AR turbine, I think it would work together ok. I would use a light 11,9lbs flywheel and alu under- and overdrive, so the engine should spool up fast and with it the turbo. Other modifications would be until now a postet engine block, rebuild D16z6,...

I don't know which fuel manegement I would take and my biggest question: Which fuel injectors would be the right for this setup ??? I'm looking for a vortech FMU (?)

An Apexi would also be instelled. As fuelpump I would take a modificated Bosch from Porsche 911 ore something like that, they are cheap and easy to get in germany

Has anybody more tips, what I should use on this setup, the car should be on the road again in the beginnig of the next year, so there is a litle time for changes in the setup...

Greetings Florian

I have a T25 on my 1.6 Dseries and it definatly makes over 150 hp. It will spool a lot faster so you make good power from 3500 rpm and up rather than just in the upper rpms. You should get a straingt t3 if 150hp is all you need. If you want more, the turbo you have should be good for 100hp more or so. The T3 would be my choice, sized right between what I have and what you have, perfect

for low boost (under 7-8) the FMU will work fine. Get an adjustable one so you can tune it a little better than just a 12:1 or whatever. If you are going the use the FMU you need a high pressure in-line pump rather than the high volume in-tank porsche or walboro etc...

Stock injectors would work fine for 150hp. The AFC hack is also good for low power turbo setups, search for it. The hack can be tuned a little better than the FMU and runs stock fuel pressure. All I have is 450s and the SAFC, no pump (yet) drives great!!!

light fly wheel is good, you could even go lighter (I like the ACT Xact forged chromoly ones) skip the pulleys, they are a waste of money and can compromise the reliability of the crank bearings because they have no harmonic balancer.

Are you going to add an intercooler? what octane is your petrol (hehe is that right?)

Uberdata is very good, and can be cheap. It is much like any other laptop editor. Much better than the AFC or FMU.

Hi...

our fuel is avaible from diesel to 100 octane fuel But the 100 octane is more expensive than gold here, so it would be around 97...98 octane

An fuel pressure regulator I have still... good to know, that it works in the beginnig...

I think the 150hp are just the beginnig - I think all off you know: First boostet car and you would everytime more

But I'm not sure, if the block can handle much more hp... the only modification until now would be the posted block... everything else is oem (but in very good condition)

You will waste your time posting your block. Stock sleeves are weak and like to swell, and when they have nowhere to swell to they crack at right angles to the post.

For low boost, and your power goals, your one and only worry is your rods. I still know a lot of D15 guys making 150-170 on stock rods without a problem. You should be fine.
