d-series turbo size
Alright i'm going to boost my d16y8 and I am looking to make @ least 300whp with the ability to go up to 400whp once the block and head are fully built.
I would go with a GT2871 but I don't like the wastegate design. Overall after looking around I believe I would be best off with a T3/TO4E 57 trim .48 A/R turbo because it should spool up pretty decently and not run out of power up top
Does this turbo sound like a good option for a DD making anywhere from 300-400whp?
Does anyone have any specs on when this turbo will start spooling/hit full boost?
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

yeah the 54 trim is nice it flows right in the middle of the 50 and 57 trim. But if your wanting to push 400whp i think your better off with a 57 trim IMO because it will still have room to grow and you wont be on the edge of its effiency

This is exactly the turbo that Garrett spec'd for us for our MiniMe project. 1.6L and 400Hp. External wastegate, oil cooled. We'll be using one of these with one of our shorty manifolds in a CRX.
We have two of these turbos on the shelf and can part with one if you want it. Just hit us with an email at "sales@tunertoys.com", and we can hook you up.

spool isn't a major deal...but it's a daily driver and I don't want to have to hit 4krpms just to hit a decent amount of boost
60 trim would be great for topend...but at that point I would probably shell out the cash for a gt30 or gt35 if I wanted big boost.
So it is either 57 or 54 trim w/ .63 a/r

Totally hear that.
For more midrange, that will still pull hard do the 54 trim. But to hit the 400 mark no problem the 57 will do.
Its going to be a decision you make for yourself depending on what you want pretty much from here lol</TD></TR></TABLE>
I agree, I used the 50 trim and could not hit the 400hp mark with it. My best time with the 50 trim in my crx was 11.50 @ 121 mph and this was at 324hp.. I now use a tranny breaking, Hard hitting SC 6131E. You will be better off with the 57 trim as Rota92 suggests to hit your goals!
