Seriously, both you and I beat the living **** out of that engine. I dunno how it still ran. Thanks for the compliments on the write-up guys.

If you get this, with a wild cam, and the ITBs, plus a turbo... you will have a seriously advanced D series engine. If the B series were cheaper, I'm sure people would be finding out all this nifty shizzle too, but alas... Keep us updated...

Yeah the d16 should have a bunch of goodies on it. I am going to work on the combustion chamber, and overall porting design of the head as well. The roller rocker and itb will be used on my personal d16 engine that I am going to start building. The head that you see ported is for my girlfriends d16z6, but I am going to build a race d16 that I'll be competing with next season in the street class. 500whp d-series anyone?

Another bad *** D-Series tech thread by boosted hybrid.
Is this and the itb tech threads the only ones you have out right now on the D-Series or are there other's lurking around?, because I would love to read them.
I can't wait to see how your race motor comes out.

thats so badass jeff. if you cant find a place to build a cam for you, i know of two places that are pretty respectable, but their pricing is a little rough. good luck, this is one hell of a project!

I used to get 56-57 on the HWY with my '93 VX.

Re: D-Series Tech: Factory Roller Rockers (RyanCivic2000)
RyanCivic2000 both the roller rocker and itb are the only write ups I have at the moment. I have a few more ideas kicking around, but I need to do the work and take pics. I'll have a nice write up soon about porting the d-series heads, as well as doing some combustion chamber shaping for supressing detonation.
FF Geoff-I pm'd you about the sources to get the cams made. I dont have anytime to get this stuff done with finishing up this semester, but this summer I'll have all this stuff sorted out and finished.
I'll have as much write ups as possible when time permits. I am focusing on the d-series stuff since both T-sohctec and I have so many d-series parts, as well as the fact that the d-series are the underdogs and I like to see them make some power.

i know that this is WAY long ago, but i am currently building a y5 head and i was wondering how this setup turned out for you.

i don't understand how the intake rockers could work because of the vtec-e setup

not all the VX's had the 5 wire. The 5 wire was also made by nTk, not NGK... At least they are branded as being "NTK" on the units.

i wouldn't say the VX uses low and VTEC lobes, i'd say the cam uses low and normal lobes.
below 2500 or 3200 or whatever, one intake valve runs off the almost non existant lobe to promote swirl and fuel atomization. when "VTEC" engages, it runs just like a d16y7 head or similar.
i'd say the best things to do with a VTEC-e head when performance comes to mind is simply get rid of the VTEC mechanism and get a custom cam ground so that it functions like any normal 16 valve head, but take advantage of the roller rockers for cam design. oh, and port the holy hell out of it. I only say this becuase of the people who insist modding their VTEC-e "becuase it has roller rockers y0", and/or the people that run p28 or similar ECU on their VTEC-e and reply "the VTEC kicks mad hard y0" (choking your engine to 4800 rpm on 12 valve mode surely will make 16 valve mode seem like a burst of power)
oh, btw, your pictures dont work.

That's because this post is nearly 3 years old.
This is, by far, the worst idea I've ever had (the whole reason I'm deleting it). The rocker arms didn't line up properly, the cam caps needed to be align honed, and it would need an oversized custom cam made.
