D-Series LSD options
I know there are a ton of posts archieved but I don't see anything that answers what the current scenario really is.
As I understand OBX LSD's have gone (even further) south in quality control and you're taking a gamble on runout issues or excessive mods to get it to work right. Is this the case or can you still get one that will just drop in?
Quaife is just too expensive unless anyone knows of a supplier that sells them cheaper than 800.
MFactory as I understand hasn't produced the Dseries LSD yet. What are the opinions on the other MFactory LSd's are they any good or just another OBX?
My project will probably be getting done soon and I'd prefer to get this aspect of it out of the way.
Any info appreciatted.

Re: D-Series LSD options
It is really worth the money to pay for the Quaife. Not only are you paying for a good quality LSD but you are also paying for piece of mind. Remember, the Quaife's have lifetime warranty on them and no other one does. So look at it like you are buying a 600 dollar lsd and purchasing a warranty for another 200 for the life of the unit. Just my opinion. I am currently running on one my setup and love it.
Also, if you are going to want to make good hp and torque, consider purchasing some gearsets and final drive to help back up your setup. Trust me I have learned the hard way. I am on my third trannie because I am making to much power for the stock **** to hold up. MFactory has a setup for our d-series that works great. That is what I am using now. Good luck.

Re: D-Series LSD options
and M-Factory should be coming out with their D LSD real soon anyway.
I've actually put things on hold for a while I gotta get another block before worrying about the LSD... and I might be buying a house so all of this is going to have to wait...
Any info welcome though.

Its funny alot of people locally run the OBX lsd's and I haven't heard of one problem.
I actually have one for a gsr sitting on the shelf and soon I'll put it in a tranny that will see 600hp. I guess only time will tell how well it'l actually hold.

Re: D-Series LSD options
There is a reason Bone and I no longer install OBX's...
MFactory or Quaife. Quaifes went up in price with the new US distributor. Any Quaifes purchased when Autotech was the US distributor are only covered as long as they still have parts or entire diffs in stock to repair or replace. I went through an ordeal with them to get my 35mm replaced as it had a major defect. Got the last one in the US as a replacement. If it had been gone already, I would have gotten a refund minus their restocking fee, which is crap give the situation.
OBX has big issues with runout (on top of everything else). On the last one I will ever install it had .023" runout. Shipped it back and was denied a refund due to the case being modified (had to grind it for the ring gear bolts to clear). What does that have to do with runout? Nothing other than the fact that they can't resell it. So I got the replacement for it on Friday. .005" runout and 3 of the ring gear bolts won't clear. Emailed the dealer and they want pics to verify as they had OBX check it before it shipped out. Excellent QC there...
MFactory LSD will be ready end of next month. Pre-order is available.

P.S. Last MFactory LSD I installed had .0002" runout.

Re: D-Series LSD options
I have seen a thread involving the MFactory and axles being stuck-
Is this a first generation issue or what?
According to the poster, MFactory did a excellent job of customer service, but for me I dont have the ability to have downtime at all, Im looking for a one time thing. Any suggestions?

Look at post #34
It has a vid. of measuring runout.
I'm putting my build on hold for a bit so I'll probably just wait for the MFactory unit to come out.

Re: D-Series LSD options
Cable and hydraulic diffs are dimensionally the same. It will work in either. The axle problem was an isolated case. No other reports of this.
Yes, MFactory is going to make a D Series LSD. I'll have them in stock end of next month. I'm the exclusive dealer for it so any questions regarding it should be directed towards me as MFactory will foward you to me anyways.
