Default D-Series ARP Head studs question

aight here is my dillema...i have read the many discerning threads on heads lifting so i thought i would go ahead and get some arp headstuds to hopefully free me from the worries of all that...but i am wondering if i can install these without changing the headgasket i mean what if i take one stock one out and replace it with an arp one at a time(torqued to spec of course) but would that mess up the way you torque them from what i understand you have to torque them in order..so i just wonder if it would be stupid to do it that way? i just dont want to have to take the head off basically but i really dont want to have head gasket/head lifting issues thanks ..oh yeah its a d16y8 if it makes a difference

You would need to replace the headgasket. Half assing will get you into trouble. Once you loosen the stock headbolt, it will de-seal a porton of the headgasket, and replacing it with an arp is just like reusing the headgasket. You can get head gasket for 30$ and pulling off the head isnt so hard.

a y8 mls head gasket is like $30;

ffs just replace it

$30 gasket + $90 studs + $5 bottle of copper spray and you're set

damn... stop thinking that the ARP headstuds and copper spray will solve your headlifting issue... The copper spray is gay and it wont stop your sleeves from distorsioning and moving... sleeves your block with the help of a good shop like Benson and your set...

Stock sleeve from the D serie suck... get a set ductile iron sleeves in it and ask for a step deck and also get the top of your sleeves o ringned...

with the amount of lifting issues with stock d16 blocks, I'm definately going with the sleeving route

I agree 100%, there are a select few that will sleeve a D-series. We do this for the fun of it, not everyone can lay do money for a sleeved block.

I think he just needs to do the usual ARP and headgasket. That is the best we can do without sleeving and what not. At the moment, that is all some of us can do. If there is something else I am missing, I would like to know. Because I hope this never happens to mine.

also how many people have had this problem when they installed ARP head studs BEFORE they had the head lift the first time..it seems like most people put in arps after they had the problem which seems risky to me unless you have both the block and the head checked...

i don't hear many d series guys checking up on the height of the dowels holding the head in place....
once you resurface the head and block, you have to make sure that the dowels are shortened too

If your running stock sleeves in a D series just take out a little more timing then if you where running a sleeved block. Zexman ran 14 degrees of timing and was successful.
Copperspray cheap insurance But will not stop lifting issues
